Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 vs Asus Memo Pad 8 – Pricing, Features and Specs Comparison

Back in 2013, the market welcomed another awesome tablet: Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, while the Memo Pad 8 (ME581CL) came in June this year. Now, you’re wondering which tablet has a better performance, or a better camera, or a more affordable price. This comparison will reveal the winner of this challenge.

Displays and sizes

There isn’t much to say about the displays of the Samsung tablet. It measures 8inches and it’s TFT, with a resolution of 800x1280pixels and a pixel density of only 189ppi. However, the Samsung tablet has light and proximity sensors, so you’ll get decent visuals. The Memo Pad is clearly more advanced, offering a much higher screen resolution – 1200x1920pixels, which gives a pixel density of 283ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, so it’s scratch resistant, and it also features a light sensor to improve the visuals depending on the light environment.

The Galaxy Tab 3 is shorter, measuring 209.8×123.8×7.4mm, but it’s heavier, weighting 314grams. The Memo Pad’s dimensions are: 213x123x7.5mm and the tablet is weighting 299grams.

Hardware and OS

The Samsung tablet runs smoothly with a dual core 1.5GHz processor, based on an Exynos 4212 chipset, and coupled with a Mali-400 GPU. The built in storage has a capacity of 16/32 GB, with the possibility of expanding it up to 64GB with a microSD card. This tablet is running on the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS.

Without a doubt, the Memo Pad tablet is superior thanks to its quad core 2.3GHz processor, which teams up perfectly with an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset and a PowerVR G6430 GPU, being helped by the 2GB of RAM. As for the internal memory, you get 16/32 GB, but the tablet doesn’t support microSD card slots for expansion. The operating system is Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) and you can install all kinds of apps without worrying that the device will become sluggish.

Cameras

The rear cameras on these tablets aren’t the strongest points, as both of them offer a resolution of 5MP. The difference is that Tab 3’s camera has more features to offer: a CMOS image sensor, panorama, geo-tagging and HD video recording at 720p@30fps. The Memo Pad’s rear camera features only geo tagging, lacking autofocus and LED flash. The secondary cameras aren’t that great either. The Tab 3 has a 1.3Mp front camera, while the Memo Pad has even a weaker front camera – 1.2MP.

Batteries

These tablets sport non-removable batteries. The Tab 3 comes with a Li-Ion 4450mAh battery which allows up to 11hours for multimedia play time. The Memo Pad has a Li-Po battery (15.2 Wh) which lasts 9hours if used continuously.

Prices

The Samsung is selling its Galaxy Tab 3 on amazon.com at the price of 220 dollars. The Memo Pad is 20 dollars cheaper.
