Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Promises Immersive Sound Design for Every Weapon

Sounds have an important role to play in making an entertaining content immersive, be it a game or a movie. It doesn’t matter.

With a keen focus on this aspect, the developers at Sledgehammer say that they have used the most authentic sounds in the upcoming Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, especially for those weapons which are so important in the story telling. The promotional videos for the game are getting released every week or so where we get to know more about this exciting offering.

A large group of gamers have spoken in social media forums claiming that they have never been this excited for a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare and as Sledgehammer is the people behind it, maybe they might just be able to recreate the magic one more time. The video shows audio director Don Veca talking about how they worked on creating the weapon sounds for the game to make it completely immersive and make it feel like a movie but the difference here is, you are the person holding the gun. So, things have to be much different than a film.

A Real First Person Shooter

In a FPS title such as Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, you get to witness the events from a first person perspective and all sounds have to move around you. Speaking on this, Veca said, “Our new audio intelligence system is designed in such a way that you will hear explosions and gun fire right next to you when they happen in the environment. And, the bullets whizzing past will go right through you which is going to make sure that you feel yourself engrossed in the middle of the action.

The idea is to make the player feel that they are holding the weapon and actually wielding it rather than making it sound like an ambient noise.” He added that each gun sound has been tweaked to perfection and bullets ricochet on different objects and make sounds based on the environment you are in. “The sound changes every time and this will lead to a completely new experience where you won’t be hearing the same sound twice.” Sounds interesting, isn’t it?

Environmental Sound

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare has an impressive and immersive environmental sound, according to what the audio director has to say. Everything right from the road, buildings, metal, cars and environmental objects create a sound when you shoot at it or an explosion takes place. This will add the much needed realism to the game. “We know the story of Advanced Warfare is set in the future but that didn’t carry us away. We started off with a more grounded approach so as to get the normal things right before we started experimenting with something more futuristic. All the noises have been revamped to let players go into the world and feel the action right under their feet.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is scheduled to hit Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on November 4th.
