Apple held an event in Cupertino on the 9th of September during which it finally unveiled the long awaited iPhone 6. Not only did Apple introduce the new iPhone, but also brought along its bigger brother. The event features the standard iPhone 6, which has a 4.7 inch display, the larger iPhone 6 Plus, which take things up a notch with its 5.5 inch screen, and also a wearable gadget. What was at first perceived as the iWatch, turned out to be a device called the Apple Watch, a wearable smartwatch gadget. Due to the impressive devices and presentation, the event was an overall success for Apple.
The introduction of the new iPhone devices made fans want them even more, and here are a few of the features you can expect from the Apple flagship:
Massive Storage
During the event, Apple clarified some rumours. Some of these had to do with the iPhone 6’s internal storage capacity, as many speculated that the device will come in a 128 GB variant. Apple confirmed the memory boost, as its offer now no longer includes the 32 GB version. The iPhone 6 roster is now made of the 16, 64 and 128 GB variants.
The Power of 3D
Due to the increasing popularity and complexity of mobile games, Apple has decided to meet the developers half way and implement the Metal API which focuses on their work. This will improve the graphic side of gaming applications.
Apple Pay
Apple has recently launched its very own mobile payment service, and Apple Pay is what the iPhone 6 will be using to complete the process, making use of both hardware and software elements of the new device. The handset will take advantage of the newly-added NFC capabilities, alongside the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, the Apple Passbook and the Secure Element. Laptop Mag reports that the credit card information can be added either via the user’s account on iTunes, or by taking a picture of the credit card. The service will be available for over 220.000 retailers in the US, including brands like McDonald’s, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Subway, and many more others. Target and Panera also support the feature online.
WiFi Improvements
The WiFi on the iPhone 6 has been apparently improved a great deal, as now, Apple offers wireless calling as well as WiFi connection speeds that are three times faster than what previous iPhone models could achieve.
Better Battery
One of the constant complaints about Apple’s iPhone in general, has always been the poor battery performance displayed by the unit. A better battery has been on the wishlist of every Apple fan for a very long time, but it seems like Apple finally listened and improved the battery on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It expected that the iPhone 6 would last up to 14 hours of talk time on 3G, and 250 while in standby mode. The larger iPhone 6 Plus can sustain 24 hours of 3G talk time and stay in standby mode for about 384 hours .
Display Improvements
Although it already had a stunning display, the iPhone took it even further. The 4.7 and 5.5 inch models feature different specification in the display department. The smaller 4.7 inch model will come with a thin IPS LCD screen and a 1334 x 750 resolution, paving the wait for the 326 ppi pixel density.
The larger iPhone 6, however, will feature a full HD 1920 x 1080 display resolution. What was initially speculated to be sapphire crystal glass technology turned out to actually be ion strengthened glass.
