iPhone 6 Plus vs HTC One M8 – Comparison of Dimensions, Screen Display and Camera

The iPhone 6 Plus and the HTC One M8 are two of the latest releases from Apple and HTC.

HTC One M8 made its entry in March 2014 while iPhone 6 Plus was launched in September 2014. Both gadgets are represented by the form factor design and are listed among the premier launches by their manufacturers. The article below makes a comparative study on some good to know aspects of these devices.

Size, Weight and Design

Keep both the phablets side by side and you will definitely notice that there is a good difference in their sizes. Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus is not only one of its biggest devices but also larger than the HTC One M8. However, this difference is only in terms of length and width. Surprisingly, when it comes to the thickness aspect, the iPhone 6 Plus proves that it can get thinner than the HTC One M8. However, due to the overall increase in size it is no wonder that the iPhone 6 Plus is the heavy phablet.

On the design front, both phablets score more or less the same. Each phablet has a metal casing and features rounded or curved corners. While the iPhone 6 Plus features the standard aluminum casing, the HTC One M8 has a brushed metal case.

Verdict: The fact that the iPhone 6 Plus is the thinner phablet makes it compact enough to hold and easier to use when compared to the HTC One M8.

Screen Display

Both phablets fall under the 5-inch phablet category and encompass a capacitive touch screen each. Each screen is capable of rendering 16 million colors. When measured diagonally, the iPhone 6 Plus has a bigger screen of 5.5 inches as against the 5-inch screen of the HTC One M8. It may be interesting to note that the gadgets share the same pixel resolution of 1920×1080. However, the iPhone 6 Plus has a slightly less pixel density of 401ppi in comparison to the HTC One M8 with a pixel density of 441ppi. The key difference to be noted between the two screens is the display technology incorporated in the phablets. The iPhone 6 Plus uses a RetinaHD IPS LCD display with LED backlight. On the other hand, the HTC One M8 comprises a Super LCD3 display panel. While the display screen in the iPhone 6 Plus is made of ion strengthened glass, the screen of the HTC One M8 features Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Verdict: Although display technologies differ and the HTC One M8 boasts of a better pixel density, the phablets can be considered on par with respect to their displays. This is because both screens render equally good viewing angles, color contrasts and brightness.

Camera

Apple claims to have improvised the 8-megapixel rear camera with 1.5 micron pixels in its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus when compared to its earlier models. The new camera sports an iSight sensor with focus pixels to assist in autofocus phase detection. On the other hand, the HTC One M8 sports a 4-ultrapixel rear camera with a slightly bigger pixel size of 2 micron pixels. The iPhone 6 Plus has some interesting features such as optical image stabilization and video capture features like continuous autofocus and 240 fps slo-mo mode. However, the HTC One M8 portrays a depth sensor for capturing 3D images. This feature is not available in the iPhone 6 Plus. Also, while the HTC One M8 portrays an LED flash, the iPhone 6 depicts a true tone flash. With respect to the front camera, the HTC One M8 without doubt has a better 5-megapixel camera in contrast to the 1.2-megapixel camera of the iPhone 6 Plus.

Verdict: Color reproduction and image quality are better in the iPhone 6 Plus. Also, the optical image stabilization feature helps in producing natural looking shots in poor lighting conditions.
