HTC One M8 vs iPhone 6 – Comparison of Specifications and Pricing

HTC One M8 is one of the rare Android devices that can offer an excellent build and compete with the iPhone 6.

However, the new iPhone 6 is better, bigger and bolder, and is a serious competitor for the high end devices on the market, M8 included. Here is how they stack up against one another.

Design and Display

As mentioned previously, the One M8 is one of the rare Android devices with a metal body. Both devices are highly attractive, and it is hard to distinguish either one. The iPhone 6 measures at 138x67x6.9, weighting 129 grams. This makes Apple’s devices lighter, slimmer and more compact in the hand. The M8 measures at 146x71x9.35, weighting 160 grams. A neat feature of the iPhone 6 is the mute button on the side, allowing users to turn off sounds without a touch on the screen. The M8 has the upper hand in the display section, featuring 5-inches display with a resolution of 1080×1920. The bigger display comes as an advantage when playing games and watching videos. The iPhone 6 made progress in the display apartment, and has grown to 4.7-inches with a resolution of 750×1334. Apple’s device is available in space gray, silver and gold color. M8 on the other hand, offers more diversity here, with options as rose, black, gold, gray and silver color.

Hardware and Operating System

The new 64bit A8 chip found in the iPhone 6 is one of the most powerful on the market. The dual core processor is clocked at 1.4GHz and it comes with the support of 1 GB RAM memory. Even though the sheer power of the processor doesn’t entice at first glance, rest assured that the speed is overwhelming. M8 comes with one of the most powerful chips of Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 801. A quad core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and backed by 2GB RAM memory, the device holds its ground with Apple’s handset. The iPhone 6 boasts a lot more memory storage than its predecessor boasts and is now available with 128 GB built in memory. The downside is there is no external microSD slot. HTC One M8 on the other hand, has only up to 32 GB internal storage, but users can 128 GB memory with the help of microSD card.

The iPhone 6 runs on the latest version of Apple’s software, the iOS 8. The OS is packed with several features and options. The iPhone 6 offers better selection of applications including some of the mobile productivity apps. M8 runs on 4.4 KitKat, with integrated HTC skin, that makes the OS even more customizable and comes with a huge selection of free applications.

Camera

The M8 is one of the rare smartphones on the market that feature a rather weak camera. The device comes with a 4-MP UltraPixel rear camera that is decent if the conditions are appropriate, but the overall quality is simply not there. The good news is that there are some neat features like 3D effects and background blur. The iPhone 6 features an 8-MP rear facing camera, with dual LED flash, image stabilization and optical system with more narrow aperture f2.2 compared to f2.0 on the M8. The camera on the iPhone 6 can record time lapse videos and 240fps slow motion videos. The front camera is where M8 has an advantage. The device features an incredibly powerful 5-MP camera with wide angle lens. Apple’s device and its 1.2-MP sensor can’t compete here.

Battery

HTC One M8 comes with a non-removable 2600 mAh battery, decent enough to last for a full day. Apple has made progress in this department as well, but the 1800 mAh battery found on the iPhone 6 is rather disappointing.

Price

The pricing for these devices is very close. The M8 can be bought for $670 in the off contract version, while the basic off contract version for the iPhone 6 costs $650.
