One of the market leaders in China, Xiaomi, has released enough devices to reach the third installment in its “Mi” series. You might know a thing or two about the Xiaomi Mi3, which was well received by the public, but how does it perform when put to the test against two other devices, both from Nokia’s Lumia line? The Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 come with their own set of flaws and strong points, so let’s see which is the best device overall.
Display
The are some similarities in this department, as both the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Xiaomi Mi3 share the same display resolution, 1920 x 1080, but for differen screen sizaes. The Xiaomi Mi 3 comes with a 5 inch display, while its Nokia competitor comes with a much larger 6 inch display. The other device involved, the Lumia 1320, comes with a 6 inch display also, but a different resolution of 1280 x 720.
Processor
Once again, the top battle goes between the Mi3 and Lumia 1520, which both sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor. The Chinese manufacturer gains the edge due to its newer processor build, although the same Snapdragon 800, and the Tegra 4 option that comes for the Chinese market. The Lumia 1320 packs a weaker dual core Snapdragon processor.
Memory
The Nokia Lumia 1520 has 32 GB of internal memory space, more than the 8 GB included with the Lumia 1320. Although the Xiaomi Mi3 comes in 16 and 64 GB variants, it balances out the fact that it doesn’t support microSD cards, as opposed to the Nokia devices, which do. The Mi3, like the Lumia 1520 for that matter, comes with 2 GB of RAM, while the weaker Lumia 1320 only houses 1 GB of RAM.
Camera
The Xiaomi Mi3 hosts a 13 MP camera on the rear and a 2 MP camera on the front . This isn’t enough, however, to top the 20 MP shooter of the Lumia 1520, which is placed on the rear side. However, the front facing camera of the Lumia 1520 is weaker than the Xiaomi’s, only 1.2 MP. The Lumia 1320 places last with a 5 MP camera on the back and a VGA lens on the front.
Connectivity
In terms of connectivity, all three devices come with the standard options included in today’s smartphones, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm audio jack, USB, and so on. One thing that set them apart is the fact that the Mi3 doesn’t include support for LTE, whereas the other two do. The Xiaomi handset offers support for Chinese networks WCDMA and TD-SCDMA.
Operating System
As it would be expected, the two Nokia Lumia devices feature Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 (Black Edition). On the other hand, the Chinese phone works on the MIUI V5 operating system, which is based on Google’s Android JellyBean.
Size and Battery
Out of the three, the Mi3 is the thinnest device, measuring 144 x 73.6 x 8.1 mm, while the thickest device, the Lumia 1320, measures 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8 mm. The other Lumia, 1520, measures 162.8x 85.4 x 8.7 mm.. The order based on weight, from heaviest to lightest is 220g, 209 g and 145 g for the Lumia 1320, Lumia 1520 and the Xiaomi Mi3, respectively.
The battery included with the Mi3 has 3050 mAh while the two Lumia phones have 3400 mAh each.
Price
On Amazon.com, you can get the Lumia 1520 for about $500 and the Lumia 1320 for about $270. The Xiaomi Mi3 comes as cheap as $430 on the same site.
