Design and Display

OnePlus One and One E8 are part of the premium class phones, with their size range putting them in the phablet category. OnePlus One has bigger screen size, set at 5.5 inches, while E8 has only 5 inches in screen size. Both devices have the same screen resolution at 1080 x 1920 pixels. However, due to the difference in size, E8 comes up with better density at 441 ppi compared to 401 ppi of OnePlus.

OnePlus comes with a magnesium exterior, while HTC still sticks to plastic-variant material (polycarbonate outer casing). Some critics value E8 as one of the best designed phones on the market at the moment. Dimensions of OnePlus are 153 x 76 x 8.9, weighting 162 grams. Due to the plastic used in the build of the phone, HTC is slightly lighter at 145 grams with dimensions 146 x 71 x 9.9. One difference in the design of the devices is the color of the exterior. OnePlus can be purchased in Sandstone Black and Silk White, while E8 is available in Electric Crimson, Misty Gray, Maldives Blue and Polar White.

Hardware and Operating System

Both devices boast of identical processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, quad-core at 2.5GHz. However, OnePlus has more RAM memory (3GB compared to 2GB of One E8). Therefore, the device is faster, more powerful, and shows less lag and delay when browsing through the applications. The difference is especially visible when playing games.

The downside of these devices is that they have very little internal storage, and are capped at 16 GB. And this is where E8 has a great advantage. With the addition of microSD slot, it can vastly increase its memory storage (up to 128 GB). OnePlus has no option for external storage.

OnePlus One runs on CyanogenMod 11S operating system, which is based on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. HTC One E8 runs on the original 4.4.2 Android KitKat OS.

Camera

Both devices have the same 13 MP rear facing camera and 5 MP front facing camera. OnePlus wins this battle due to the dual-LED flash, while HTC’s handset comes with just LED flash support. Both devices can record videos up to 1080p.

Special Features

The devices come equipped with Wi-Fi, LTE and NFC support. The difference is in the Bluetooth version, as OnePlus goes a step further than its competitor. OnePlus One supports Bluetooth 4.1, while E8 supports the standard Bluetooth version 4.0. One advantage of HTC’s handset is that it comes with dual-sim variant.

Battery

Batteries for these devices are not user-replaceable. OnePlus One has more powerful battery, a Li-Ion with capacity of 3100 mAh. HTC, on the other hand, has a 2600 mAh battery unit.

Price

OnePlus One is slightly cheaper than HTC’s handset. The price for the device is $447, more than one hundred dollars less than HTC’s price of $553.
