Sony Xperia Z2 vs Sony Xperia ZL2 – Comparison of Specifications and Pricing

The Sony Xperia Z2 is the latest flagship model brought out by Sony in order to compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8.

Previously, the company was also bringing on models like the Sony Xperia ZL in order to compete with the phablets like the Galaxy Note series from Samsung. The company is expected to come out soon with the next generation Sony Xperia ZL, the Sony Xperia ZL2.

Design

The Xperia Z2 features a slight increase in the screen size that almost brings it in a league of the phablets. This is because the device features a very large 5.2-inch screen, which is even bigger than the screen expected from the Xperia ZL2. The two phones are similar in terms of design because of Sony’s decision to stick with a very large display coupled with its trademark features like dust and water resistance. As a result, there are no ports or slots that are left open to the elements.

As an advantage, the phone can withstand up to 30 minutes of being submerged in water at depths of up to 1 m.

Screen

The standout feature of the Xperia Z2 has to be the 5.2-inch screen, which produces rich and vibrant colors thanks to the tri-luminous display technology. Further, it also utilizes an IPS panel in order to increase aspects like contrast ratio and viewing angles too much better levels. In contrast, Xperia ZL2 does not come with this aspect and features only a standard LCD screen. Due to its slightly smaller size and also the same resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the Xperia ZL2 can boast of a slightly better pixel density, although this is only marginal.

Processing Speed

This is a key element to be significantly upgraded on both the Xperia ZL2 and the Xperia Z2. Considering the previous versions of both devices, Sony has decided to equip them with similar hardware specifications when it comes to processors. As a result, they both come with a QUALCOMM snapdragon 801 processor that is rated at 2.3 GHz. It is a quad core unit that is also supported by 3 GB of RAM. The previous generation devices had only 2 GB of RAM, which means that there will be a substantial improvement in performance especially when multitasking on the latest devices.

Memory

The two phones come with the ability to expand the memory using card types like micro SD and so on. They can support up to 64 GB of external memory using this method, but more crucially, the Xperia ZL2 gets in front by featuring 32 GB of internal memory as standard.

The Xperia Z2, on the other hand, has only 16 GB of standard memory.

Camera

Apart from a significant increase in terms of sensor size on the Xperia ZL2, the two phones utilize the same 20.7-megapixel unit that has been found in previous generation devices.

After coming to the market only in the last few weeks, the Xperia Z2 is available at $ 700, which is expected to be the price of the upcoming Xperia ZL2 as well.
