Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S4 vs Galaxy Note 3 – Specs, Features and Price Comparison

The Galaxy S5 was released in April, after being announced in Barcelona, at the beginning of the year. Unlike its predecessors, this model was the first one to feature a Fingerprint scanner, a heart rate sensor + many more. We’ll compare it with the Galaxy S4 and Note 3, and you’ll decide which smartphone suits you best.

Displays, Designs and Sizes

The Galaxy S5’s display is of 5.1inches, it’s Super AMOLED and it has a screen resolution of 1080x1920pixels, the same as its siblings, but a higher pixel density – 432ppi. The S4 has a 5inches display with 441ppi, while the Note 3 comes with a 5.7inches display with 386ppi.

The new Samsung Galaxy model has the same plastic carcass, with a metallic perforated effect. The Note 3 is better looking, because it has faux leather back, which would have made the S5 look nicer, but we can’t argue with Samsung.

The Galaxy S5 is taller than it predecessor, and the Note 3 is a phablet, as you already know. The dimensions of the S5 are: 142×72.5×8.1mm, weighting 145grams, while the S3 is 15grams lighter and it measures 136.6×69.8×7.9mm. The Note 3 is massive, measuring no less than 151.2×79.2×8.3mm, and it weights 168grams.

Hardware and OS

The newest Galaxy model has a more powerful processor than the other Samsung models. It’s powered by a 2.3GHz quad core Krait 400, which is baked up by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU. The S4 has an inferior 1.9GHz quad core Krait 300 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 600) processor + Adreno 320 GPU, while the Note 3 hides under its hood a 2.3GHz quad core Krait 400 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) processor + Adreno 330 GPU. The S5 and the S4 run on the same Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS version with 2GB of RAM, while the Note 3 has 3GB of RAM and it runs on a previous 4.4 KitKat version.

The S5 has 16/32GB of RAM – expandable up to 128GB of internal storage and the S4 and Note 3 have 16/32/64 GB of internal memory (the first variants being expandable up to 64GB).

Besides the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor, HDR and Hybrid Autofocus, the S5 is also dust and water resistant.

Cameras and Batteries

Samsung improved the rear camera on the S5, making it of 16MP, being able to record 4K videos, just like the Note 3, but the phablet and the previous Galaxy model have 13MP rear cameras. But the front cameras on all three devices are 2MP.

The batteries differ on each model. Thus, the S5 has a 2800mAh battery, the S4 has a 2600mAh battery, while the Note 3 is spoiled with a 3200mAh battery.
