Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs Samsung Galaxy S2 – Top Specs and Price Comparison

Galaxy! The name implies infinity, strength, expansion, beginning. Our future technology is only limited by our imagination and we can use our current technology to enhance and enrich our imagination. The Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy S4 Mini represent such technology.

Design

Refined, classy, surely those thoughts crossed your mind when you laid eyes for the first time on the beautifully curved edges of the Galaxy S4 Mini. Being the younger sibling of the Galaxy S2, you can see that the Galaxy franchise has aged well. However, some people may prefer a more rough design. If that’s so, then the Galaxy S2′s tough, manly shape is the right choice. Both smartphones share the same plastic skin.

Display

Even though they share the same 4.3 inches screen size, the S4 Mini has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, 256 ppi, while the S2 has only 800 x 480 pixels, 217 ppi to offer.

System

While the S4 Mini is running Android Jelly Bean 4.3, the Galaxy S2 is running the 4.1 version of the same Android Jelly Bean operating system. Slightly older but significant nontheless.

Performance

With a Samsung Exynos, Dual-Core, 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB RAM, the S2 still has some strength running in it’s circuits. On the other hand, the S4 Mini is better, with a Snapdragon 400, Dual-Core, 1.7 GHz processor and 1.5GB RAM, but despite the difference, both members of the Galaxy family perform rather well.

Camera

Both the S2 and the S4 Mini share a 8MP camera. Yes the S4 Mini’s camera has more features, but ”more” isn’t always desirable.

Battery

1900 mAh can be stored in the S4 Mini’s battery, while the S2 has a lesser capacity of 1650 mAh. Not a big difference, considering that the S4 Mini needs more juice in order to use the higher resolution.

Verdict

Newer games and apps obviously require more juice, so the S4 Mini’s better processor and memory are able to handle them better, But the Galaxy S2 is a lot cheaper and it can decently run most games and apps. The shape is only a matter of taste, the S4 Mini’s higher resolution is definitely a plus, but bigger isn’t always better. It’s up to your desires and of course your wallet to decide which smartphone suits you.
