HTC One vs HTC Butterfly – Specifications and Pricing Compared

Samsung may be leading the line of the android smartphones, but HTC has been making long strides in the last few years.

This is because of phones like the HTC One and the HTC Butterfly. When compared with the Samsung phones, they not only offer style but also substance.

Design

The style quotient of the HTC Butterfly and the HTC One is massively enhanced by the large display in both devices. The HTC One features two front facing speakers that define the phone in many ways. It goes extremely well with the overall design, while also providing excellent sound quality. The HTC Butterfly does not come with front facing speakers and it retains the HTC’s recent design philosophy too. Compared with the smartphones of today, the HTC Butterfly, which was launched in January 2013, comes with four touch sensitive buttons below the display.

Display

The display of the HTC Butterfly is about 5 inches in size and it packs a full HD resolution. The display is slightly better than the 4.7 inch display offered on the HTC One. Since the HTC One comes with the same full HD resolution, it manages to become one of the best devices when it comes to pixel density. At 469 PPI of pixel density, the HTC One is one of the best smartphones in this regard.

Both devices come with beats audio in order to take advantage of this large display, but it is the HTC One with its front facing speakers that has a distinct advantage. The front facing speakers have been so successful that it is seen in current top end models from HTC.

Memory

The HTC One also gets an advantage in terms of internal memory, since it offers 16 and 32 GB variants. The HTC Butterfly comes with only 16 GB of internal memory of which only 11 GB will be available to the user since 5 GB will be consumed by the android operating system.

Despite having come out more than 12 months ago, both phones feature the latest android operating system 4.4.2 version. The phone is able to run this new version of the android without any hiccups because of the 2 GB of RAM and quad core processor present in both devices. The clock speed of the processor, though, is the difference. The processor on the HTC One is clocked at 1.7 GHz compared to the 1.5 GHz clock speed of the HTC Butterfly.

Camera

The HTC One is one of the first devices to feature the controversial 4 ultra pixel camera, which HTC has been claiming is capable of much better picture quality. HTC’s decision to retain this camera, albeit with a few improvements, even in the latest flagship devices, shows that they have faith in it. The HTC Butterfly uses a much more conventional 8 megapixel camera that can do full HD video recording.

The HTC Butterfly is priced right now at around $329, while the HTC One in the 32 GB variant will be available for $390.
