Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 – Pricing and Specifications Comparison

The ‘pro’ range of tablets from Samsung has finally introduced the sense of premium quality within the products from the Korean company in this segment.

Not just the exterior, but also the internal aspects of the device certainly live up to its name and price. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is the latest offering in this range, but it is a tablet that features a smaller 8.4 inch display. Previous generations of the tablets from the company include the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Design

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 came out almost 2 years ago and age is starting to show on the tablet. It features much thicker bezels than the current models. It is also comparatively heavier as well. The improvements done by the company over the last few years is apparent straightaway on the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. Apart from featuring a much thinner bezel, this device is also great to hold. Weighing at just 331 g, this is a tablet that truly reflects the portable nature of this device.

Screen

The two devices have a significant difference in terms of screen size. Whereas the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 features a much smaller 8.4 inch unit, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes with a slightly larger 10.1 inch unit. However, the latter certainly loses out in the detail department because it offers a resolution of just 800 x 1280 pixels. This in addition to the TFT display with no major technologies like the Super AMOLED, which is currently dominating Samsung phones and tablets, is a negative aspect.

Technology

The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 not only uses the Super clear LCD technology but it also offers a far superior resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels. This makes the device capable of challenging the likes of the iPad Mini 2 in terms of pixel density. There are few devices in the segment that can boast of this resolution. Both devices use the Gorilla glass display to protect the large touch screen.

User Interface

User interface is an aspect that is vastly different in both devices. This is an aspect that Samsung has clearly worked on in order to differentiate the ‘pro’ range of tablets. The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 use the android operating system, but there are several differences between the duo in this regard. The former uses the latest 4.4 version of the Android OS, while owing to its slightly inferior specifications, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has to rely upon the android 4.0 version. It later received an update to the 4.1 version.

The TouchWiz UI used in the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is similar to many of the tablets from the company, but the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 uses a version that is very similar to the flipboard magazine. Still, it offers a lot of customization options.

The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is one of the priciest tablet offerings at around $ 350 while the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is comparatively cheaper at just $ 200.
