iPhone 5S vs iPhone 5C – Comparing Specs and Features

Apple has presently two major iPhones for the masses: iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.

This is a very rare occasion a brand like Apple is launching two smartphones concurrently. The iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C may have been released at the same time, yet they are very diverse in terms of design, features, specs and cost. The iPhone 5S is the flagship model of the company; hence, it has superior features and specs than the iPhone 5C. However, the iPhone 5C has lower cost than the iPhone 5S and some bright color options.

Design, Dimensions, Display

Both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C follow comparable design approach. The home button and the screen are both central. The Apple and the iPhone logos are on the rear on both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. However, the similarities end here. The iPhone 5S comes in a metal chassis, whereas, the iPhone 5C comes in a plastic body. Even with a plastic body, the iPhone 5C is heavier than the iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5S’s dimensions measure 123.8mm x 58.6mm x 7.6mm in height, width and thickness. The smartphone has a 4-inch LED IPS LCD multi touchscreen having a resolution of 640×1136 pixels. In comparison, the iPhone 5C’s dimensions measure 124.4mm x 59.2mm x 9mm in height, width and thickness. The device incorporates similar screen and resolutions as that of iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5C is bigger and heavier smartphone than the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 5S comes with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a better camera than its counterpart. It adds a further level of security to the smartphone.

Hardware and Software

The iPhone 5S is powered with Apple A7 chipset with dual core 1.3GHz Cyclone processor. The smartphone runs on iOS 7 that is upgradable to iOS 7.1.1 operating system. Apple plans to make the smartphone upgradable to iOS 8. The device comes with 1GB of RAM.

The iPhone 5C is powered with Apple A6 chipset with dual core 1.3GHz Swift processor. The device also runs on iOS 7, which is upgradable to iOS 7.1.1 and further planned to upgrade the operating system to iOS 8.

Price

The iPhone 5S is priced at $849.99 in comparison to its counterpart, the iPhone 5C that is priced at $737.99.

The iPhone 5S being a flagship model has better and amazing features than the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5S is sleek, light and has a unique fingerprint technology, making it a better option than the iPhone 5C.
