Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 – Comparison of Specifications and Pricing

In a market that is heavily dominated by Apple, Samsung have been coming out with several launches in the tablet segment.

Unlike Apple, the products from Samsung are more aimed at buyers with a clear budget in mind. The iPad range is one of the costliest gadgets available in the market today, but Samsung offers similar specifications and features at a far lower price. This was the standout aspect of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, while the latest generation Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 also promises more of the same.

Design

Little has changed in terms of design between the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, despite the two devices being separated by a gap of more than 12 months. The major difference comes about in the form of a slimmer bezel on the latest Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. This was much more pronounced on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The product design, though, makes the new generation much more appealing. It is a much thinner device on the whole, while it is also much lighter.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 came in at 10.5 inches, while the latest Tab 3 8.0 offers the user a thickness of around 7.4 mm. This is one of the thinnest in the industry and it is capable of competing with the iPad Air in this aspect.

Screen

A major difference between the two tablets comes out in the form of the screen. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 uses a 7 inch unit, while the latest generation tablet uses an 8 inch display. However, more than the 1 inch difference in the screen size, the resolution makes a lot of difference. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 makes it possible for the user to experience around 1280 by 800 pixels of resolution. Previously, this was only at 1024 by 600 pixels.

Connectivity

The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 now supports memory cards of up to 64 GB compared with the 32 GB in the previous device. Due to the increased memory, it will need to support a plethora of connectivity options and it certainly offers the same. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 enriches the user with a wide variety that includes Wi-Fi, DLNA, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0, and microUSB 2.0.

The 3G connectivity in the device can now support up to 21 Mb per second in terms of download speed. The Tab 2 7.0 also came with a lot of connectivity options, but it lacked certain features like the DLNA. It also came with the Bluetooth 3.0 version only.

User Interface and Speed

Both devices use the android operating system, but by being a latest product, Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 uses the 4.2 version. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 now supports the android 4.2 version having started out with the 4.0 version.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is priced at $ 249, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is available at $ 179 for the same 16 GB version.
