Samsung Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 6 – Specifications and Pricing Compared

The Samsung Galaxy S5 became the flagship model of the Korean company after coming into the market in the last few weeks.

It is set to don the upper strata in the smartphone segment at least for the next few months before the Apple iPhone comes out in a new iterations. The iPhone 5S, which is the current model, is set to be replaced in the next few months. This is primarily because it is in no way capable of competing with the Galaxy S5, which is superior in every regard.

Major Design Changes Coming

The Galaxy S5 disappointed many users and pundits by deciding to remain almost unchanged from the Galaxy S4. Even though Samsung has tweaked some aspects of the phone, it largely remains very similar to look at from several angles. The quality of the materials, though, has substantially improved, especially in comparison with previous generation Samsung phones. However, it could take a backseat in terms of design if the rumored iPhone 6 images are true.

It is rumored that the iPhone 6 will be one of the first phones to come with the display that will take up the entire width of the phone. This would enable Apple to even increase the 4 inch display without actually increasing the size of the phone. Rumors suggest that the new iPhone could have as big as a 4.5 inch display with no considerable increase in the phone size.

Steve Jobs made it very clear that the sizes of the phone should not exceed the current levels in order to maintain user friendliness even with one hand. It is highly unlikely that the company will deviate from this philosophy after the demise of their iconic founder.

Speed

The headline specifications of the Galaxy S5 are really top notch, but Apple will be happy with the fact that the iPhone 5S still remains as one of the fastest phones available in the market today. The dual core 1.3 GHz processor may not be able to compete with the quad core 2.5 GHz unit on the Samsung device, but Apple’s intelligent operating system enables the device to perform very efficiently. In terms of RAM also the two phones are very far apart. The Samsung leads the way with 2 GB of usable RAM compared to the 1 GB of Apple.

The iPhone 6 is expected to improve on these aspects, but not by much.

Camera

The iPhone 5S still has one of the best cameras in the smartphone segment partly because of its quality and also because of its ease of use. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has moved the goal posts with a very powerful 13 megapixel unit, which even offers the ability to take 4K videos. Right now, this ability is limited to a maximum of five minutes in order to preserve memory on the phone, but this could later be removed with a software update.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a premium device that commands a price of around $ 700 for the 16 GB version, while the iPhone 6 could be slightly more.
