Using Free Antivirus and Other Ways to Protect Your Computer

We all have experienced one way or another having our computers infected with malicious malware or viruses.

And we know that it is never a pleasant experience. The effects can vary from a lagging and slowed down computer to some programs no longer functioning as they should to files permanently corrupted or erased from the system. There are times when the consequences of having a virus infiltrate your system can still be remedied. But we have seen time and time again people frustrated over permanent damage to their devices. And the scarier thing is that nowadays it is no longer just our computer systems that are at risk because of these malware. Now, even our privacy and personal information are in danger of being hacked and used illegally without our knowing. We could be just browsing through a website without knowing that we have already welcomed a threat.

Since computer viruses are becoming more and more rampant, with hacking also growing and being more common than ever before, how do we protect our devices and ourselves from malicious software? Are there really any surefire ways by which we can make sure that nothing suspicious goes through our systems?

No Hard and Fast Solution

Of course, there are plenty of options that are open to us if we want to be protected from malware, spamware, and computer virus. However, there is nothing that has at least one loophole through which viruses cannot go through.

Bear in mind when dealing with unwanted malware that computer viruses have practically hundreds of different kinds. And they attack systems differently as well. Some can coexist with our systems without wreaking obvious havoc. While there are those that are more aggressive, which make them a lot more frightening and difficult to deal with.

Despite this, there are many ways by which we can make sure that we are protected from viruses. And as long as we put up the right guards, we will not be as vulnerable to these harmful software and the more chances we get of actually preventing them from getting through to our system.

Stick to One Antivirus Software

There are many reliable antivirus software out there. Choose one that has the right features and functionality that you think you need.

For example, AVG has recently released a tighter suite of Internet security features that prevent spamware and malware from infiltrating a computer system. As you are browsing the Internet, therefore, AVG does its job of making sure that everything that you download and every website that tries to access your data, such as location, is checked for any suspicious software. You are alerted when such malware is found, and you can choose to deny it access and leave the website before any negative event occurs.

Another free antivirus program is Avira. It is very easy to use. For those who do not call themselves tech or computer geeks, this is a pretty simple program that does the job of protecting your computer against virus well. One of its best features is its ability to conduct a full computer scan, which will go through all of the files that exist on your computer. This will keep any virus from having any effect on your computer when detected. Detected viruses are locked in a quarantine where they can no longer affect the way the computer runs and is disabled to affect any other file or data. Avira is a free program that also has a premium counterpart.

The paid version has more features, of course, such as real time Internet protection.

Steer Clear of Suspicious Websites

If a website already looks suspicious, stay away from it. No need to risk damaging your computer just to satisfy your curiosity.
