Nexus 5 vs HTC One M8 – Quick Camera Comparison

The Nexus 5 is a flagship phone from Google while the HTC One M8 is a flagship from HTC.

While these phones have very little in common, their cameras have the uncanny ability to produce high quality images.

Smartphone cameras have come a long way – so much so that they have the ability to challenge the point to shoot digital cameras in the market. As a matter of fact, the HTC cameras and other smartphones seem to be competing for the top place in camera features, with DSLR cameras.

So how different is the camera on the HTC One M8 from the camera on the Nexus 5?

The Basics

The Nexus 5 is a type of smartphone that is ranked slightly lower than the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. Despite the affordable pricing of the Nexus 5, Google has gone ahead and provided an 8MP camera, which is far more superior to the 4 ultra-pixel camera used on the HTC One M8. The M8’s camera uses the same technology as that used in the predecessor, the HTC One. The HTC One M8 camera has come under a lot of criticism mostly because of the loss of details in the images captured when cropping. The camera on the HTC One M8 is a dual camera where the 2nd lens is used for capturing and adding details to the image.

The Features

The HTC One M8 can detect depth in images when the subject is clearly in focus. The use of a dual camera excels over the Nexus 5 camera in this regard as it has the ability to produce actual depth in an image which is very hard to find, even in the Samsung Galaxy S5. While this may fail at times, when the subject is in clear focus, the results are outstanding.

On the other hand, the Nexus 5 does not have the ability to produce pictures that match the dual camera in the HTC One M8. However, it offers a stable 8MP camera that can take very high quality images. While the level of color reproduction is not the best available, this camera can capture excellent detail in an image and can capture photos quickly, making it one of the best cameras in the market.

Video Recording

Both phones have been created with the ability to capture high quality images. Both phones can capture full HD videos at 60fps. The HTC One M8 is a premium device with the ability to capture slow motion videos. However, the slow motion video capturing is only limited to 60fps, which is lower than what most high end smartphones can do. The Nexus 5 ranks lower than the HTC One M8 with regard to video capturing ability and quality.

The Front Cameras

The Nexus 5 comes with a 1.3MP front facing camera which is great for making video calls. On the other hand, the HTC One M8 has a 5MP front facing camera making it better at making quality video calls and chats.

Conclusion

The HTC One M8 has an edge over the Nexus 5 in terms of camera capabilities and features. Even so, both phones are ideal for use if you need excellent camera in a phone.
