iPhone 6 vs. LG G3 – Hardware Configuration, Software and Battery Life Comparison

With a lot of expectations even before its release, there have been quite a few speculations on how well the iPhone 6 fares, when compared to other high end smartphones launched by its competitors.

One such comparison worth making is with the LG G3. Although both smartphones are priced towards the higher end of the spectrum, the LG G3 smartphone is a more affordable purchase. Released much later than the LG G3, does the iPhone 6 actually have a more promising configuration than the LG G3? The article below presents a few in depth details of these two smartphones.

Hardware

The iPhone 6 comes loaded with an Apple A8 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz and is powered with an M8 motion coprocessor and a PowerVR GX6650 graphics processor. On the other hand, the LG G3 encompasses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 system chip clocked at 2.5 GHz that is coupled with a Krait 400 processor and an Adreno 330 graphics processor. While the iPhone 6 features dual-core 64 bit architecture; the LG G3 utilizes quad-core 32 bit architecture. The iPhone 6 comprises 1GB RAM as against the 2 GB and 3 GB options that LG has to offer. The transistors used in Apple’s smartphone are much smaller than the ones in the LG G3, thereby having more number of transistors.

Verdict: If you want a smartphone with more RAM and faster chip resulting more processing power, the LG G3 smartphone would be an ideal choice. But, in reality, both smartphones can be said to rank at par, as they render really fast performance.

Operating System and Interface

Each smartphone features the latest operating system in the market. Apple’s iPhone 6 comes preloaded with the iOS 8 that allows for user customization, while the LG G3 encompasses the Android 4.4 KitKat along with the Optimus UI. Interestingly, KitKat is the latest version of Android’s operating system.

Verdict: Although both platforms support customization, Android is still a step ahead with its capability to offer various aspects such as live wallpapers. However, when it comes to functionality, both operating systems score equal points. While Apple’s operating system is less complicated and easier to work your way through, Android proves itself to be more user friendly.

Music Player

Each smartphone has an inbuilt music player to cater to the taste of any music lover. Both music players can sort the music in your smartphone based on album, artist and genre. The LG G3 has an additional option of sorting the music by folder. However, this feature is not available in the iPhone 6. The music players encompass a single loudspeaker each, although housed in different positions. While the loudspeaker in the iPhone 6 is located at the bottom of the smartphone, it is housed on the back in the LG G3.

Verdict: Although both smartphones offer good sound levels and clarity, the LG G3 has a better soundness level of 81dB in comparison to the 74.5dB soundness level of the iPhone 6.

Battery Life

While the iPhone 6 encompasses a 1,810 mAh battery; the LG G3 comes equipped with a 3,000 mAh battery. The battery in the iPhone 6 renders up to 14 hours of 3G talk time as against the approximately 21 hours of 3G talk time provided by the battery in the LG G3. With uninterrupted use, the iPhone 6 can be used for nearly five and a half hours. The LG G3 offered continuous use of about 15 minutes less than six and a half hours.

Verdict: Although the LG G3 smartphone proves to have slightly better battery life, neither of the two smartphones has exceptionally long battery life that is worth noting.
