Huawei Ascend P7 vs. iPhone 6 – Specs, Features and Price

While everyone was busy getting hyped about the iPhone 6’s alleged Sapphire glass display, Huawei delivered.

The company released their latest model, Ascend P7 at the IFA 2014. The new model premieres the Sapphire display, but is that enough to be considered a competitive smartphone? Let’s find out.

Design and Display

Huawei has changed the design of the Ascend P7 a bit, especially in the outside aesthetics. The device has a flat screen and sharp edges, but the biggest advantage is the thickness. The P7 measures at 140x69x6.5 weighting only 124 grams. For a device with 5 inches screen display, those measurements are phenomenal. The device delivers extraordinary resolution, at 1080×1920 pixels with density of 441ppi. And we already mentioned that the P7 is protected by Sapphire glass, making it extremely resistant to scratches. Apple’s device is no slouch either. It is still unknown whether the iPhone 6 will be shipped with Sapphire glass protection. However, the design is superb. The phone is completely revamped, and now has round edges and curvier design. The iPhone 6 features a 4.7 inch screen display with a resolution of 750×1334 and density of 326ppi.

Hardware and Operating System

The Huawei Ascend P7 is actually a powerful handset, competitive enough with many other high end smartphones on the market. Inside, the P7 packs a quad core processor, clocked at 1.8GHz and supported by 2 GB of RAM memory. The device comes with 16 GB built in storage, but has a microSD slot for additional 64 GB of memory space. The iPhone 6 premieres the new 64bit A8 chipset, but there is no information regarding the actual specs of the processor. The only information Apple has shared is that it will be approximately 30% more powerful than the processor found in the iPHone 5C. For comparison, that device packed a dual core 1.3GHz processor with 1 GB RAM memory.

The P7 comes with the Android 4.4 KitKat installed. Additionally, Huawei has installed the Emotion UI for more customizable and easier to navigate user experience. The iPhone 6 runs on the latest iOS 8, an extremely elegant, yet simple OS with several new features. One of the main selling points is the HealthKit application and the NFC mobile payment technology.

Camera

Selfie fans are going to go crazy over P7’s front facing camera. Embracing the selfie trend, Huawei has equipped its latest device with an 8-MP front facing camera. The rear camera is also decent, a 13-MP sensor. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, features an 8-MP rear facing camera and a 1.2-MP front facing sensor. The beauty of the camera found on the iPhone 6, is in the extra features.

Battery

Due to improvements in the Emotion UI of the P7, the battery life is vastly extended. The non removable Li-Po 2500 mAh battery can handle up to 14 hours of talk time and last 422 hours on standby mode. Apple’s device, the iPhone 6, comes equipped with a 1800 mAh battery that should up to 12 hours on standby mode.

Price

The price of Huawei’s product is expected to be little more than the usual. The alleged price of the P7 is set at $550 for the off contract version. Those who prefer the iPhone 6, have to pay $650 to get the SIM free version.
