HTC Desire 816 vs Asus ZenFone 6 – Best Prices and Top Specifications Comparison

If you need a phone that acts like a tablet, then buy a.. phablet! There’s a rich variety of phablets that you can choose from, but in this article we’re focusing our attention on HTC’s Desire 816 model and Asus’ ZenFone 6 phone. After a deep analysis, we concluded that the HTC device is a better buy because it has a more powerful processor.

Displays and sizes

Both phones are very big, but the ZenFone 6 is even bigger, featuring a display of 6inches (IPS) that supports a resolution of 720x1280pixels and 245ppi and which benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection against scratches. The Desire 816 has a 5.5inches Super LCD2 display with the same resolution, but the pixel density is higher at 267ppi.

The ZenFone 6 weights 196grams and its body dimensions are 166.9×84.3×9.9mm, while the Desire 816 is almost 30grams lighter and it measures 156.6×78.7×7.9mm.

In conclusion, the ZenFone 6 is taller, wider, thicker and heavier.

Hardware and OS

The phones are very different internally and we can easily deduct that the Desire 816 has a more powerful processor because it has four cores, although the clock speed is set at 1.6GHz, while the ZenFone 6 has a dual core processor clocked at 2GHz. The differences don’t stop here. The HTC uses a Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset in combination with an Adreno 305 GPU and 2GB of RAM, while the Asus phablet has an Intel Atom Z2580 chipset supporting a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU and 1 or @GB of RAM.

The operating system of the Desire 816 is Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) and the ZenFone 6 comes pre-loaded with v4.3 (Jelly Bean), but thankfully, it got updated to the same version as its rival who has Sense UI v6 on top of its OS, while the Asus devices is using ASUS Zen UI.

Cameras

Both phones sport 13MP back cameras with 4160x3120pixels, autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo tagging, panorama and face detection and they record at 1080p@30fps in HD. The difference is that the Desire 816 has an extra feature such as simultaneous HD video and image recording and it’s also capable of recording at 720p@60fps, and has a better front camera of 5MP, while the Asus device has a 2MP front shooter.

Batteries

Both phones are fitted with Li-Po non removable batteries, but of different capacities: the ZenFone 6 sports a 3300 mAh battery which allows a total duration of talking time of 28 hours, while the Desire 816 has a 2600 mAh battery which lasts 21 hours when talking on 3G.

The Zenfone 6 16GB variant can be purchased from amazon.com at the price of 278 dollars. The Desire 816 costs 335 dollars.
