We Have the Names for the New iPhone

A report by the Japanese blog Macotakara suggests that the names for the new devices Apple is scheduled to unveil today (September 9), will be iPhone6 and iPhone6 +.

If the names are true, it means Apple has stuck to the simple, yet elegant solution once more.

Naming Strategy

The 4.7 inches alleged version may be known as the iPhone6, while the larger device, rumored to be a 5.5 inches handset may carry the name iPhone6 +. The report also suggests that both handsets will come in colors as the current iPhone 5S lineup (space gray, silver and gold).

The name iPhone Plus or iPhone+ is not new to the public. It was widely rumored back in January 2013. Due to wrong translation from China, some reports were naming the device iPhone Math.

According to details from the report, the new iPhone6 will come in versions with 16, 32 and 64 GB internal storage memory. Earlier reports suggested a 128 GB device is in the making as well.

Last year, Apple released two new models, the 5S and the 5C versions. However, both had slim improvements from the 4-inches iPhone5.

The new iPhone 6, however, is due to a complete redesign. Due to the larger screen size, the power button will be moved to the right edge, in order to provide better usage and more ergonomic feel in the hand.

Rumored Specifications

Some of the rumored specifications for the new device include a new A8 chipset, which could be either a dual core set at 2GHz or a quad core processor. The rear camera is rumored to be a 13-MP sensor Apple bought from Sony. The screen sizes are set at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, with resolution set at 1334 x 750 pixels, and pixel density in the range of 400ppi.
