40,000 Xiaomi Redmi 1S Units Sold in Seconds – Specs, Price and Features

The Chinese company Xiaomi has steadily gained attention across the world.

A startup company, Xiaomi, has a genuine and unique way of doing business. Since there are no shops and they sell their products through third party vendors online (the e-commerce platform Flipkart), they can afford to offer lower prices than competitors. With prices twice as low as their competitors, the company is popular in China and India. However, experts believe Xiaomi can capture the US market and other foreign markets as well. Redmi 1S is one of the phones that can help the company achieve that. Redmi 1S has a slot for two Mini-SIM cards, but only one can be used on 3G networks.

Design and display

Redmi 1S boasts a 4.7 inch screen, with screen resolution of 720 x 1280 and density of 312ppi. The dimensions of the device are 137x69x9.9. One downside is that the phone is definitely not slim, compared to other devices in the class. It is also heavier than most of the competitors, weighing 158 grams. Xiaomi doesn’t experiment with the design much and the 1S looks like your normal, everyday smartphone. The look of the phone is not appealing and does not attract attention, but for most people, this is not a game changer. The design of the phone is standard, with volume rocker and power button on the right side and a microphone and micro-USB port on the bottom edge. The glass of the phone is protected by AGC Dragontrail 2 glass. The rear cover is removable and will be available in different colors in the future. Opening the cover is a simple task and the battery is also removable.

Hardware and Operating System

Inside the device, there is a top quality, Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor at 1.66GHz, with 1 GB of RAM memory. The downside is that after the OS and services have loaded, users are left only with 400 MB of RAM memory. However, it should not be a problem as long as you don’t open several applications at the same time. Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes with 8 GB internal storage, of which 6 GB is available to the user. If you need more space for music, videos and pictures, you can increase the storage for additional 64GB using a microSD card.

Unlike competitors, the phone runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and comes with special Xiaomi UI on top of it. However, the company has promised to bring the 4.4 KitKat to the device by the end of the year. The UI offers lots of features and has all the icons lined up on the home screen. Frequently used applications are available via easy-access tiles. Another useful feature is the secret message area, hidden within messages, which can be accessed by swiping down from within the application. Calendar and Weather application display up to date, relevant information.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi 1S has an 8-MP rear camera with flash, and 1.6-MP front camera. The device can record 1080p videos. The camera comes with a simple and advanced mode. During the day, the phone takes some excellent snaps.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi 1S has a battery capacity of 2000 mAh. Users should not be worried, as the device is reliable and can last a whole day without problems.

Price

At the moment, the best buy price for Redmi 1S is $130, but can go up to $160. In India, as many as 40,000 phones have been sold through Flipkart in just 4 seconds for a price of 5,999 INR.
