Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs Sony Xperia C – Best Prices and Top Specifications

What do Xperia C and Galaxy Grad 2 have in common? The same processor model with the same clock speed, plus the camera resolution. Otherwise, they’re different and we’ll tell you more about the successor of Galaxy Grand and Sony’s Xperia C.

Displays and sizes

The Xperia C’s display is TFT sized at 5inches, with 540x960pixels and 220ppi. The quality isn’t one of the greatest, which brings to mind the fact that Sony had to make a compromise on this segment, in order to be able to sell a cheap phone. The weight of this device is 153grams and the dimensions are 141.5×74.2×8.9mm. Sony opted for a soft touch plastic rear panel which can be removed, and on the right side of the phone you’ll find the power button, the camera and the volume rocker. You won’t be very satisfied with the viewing angles and the images because at a high resolution, they won’t be very sharp.

The Galaxy Grand 2 has an improved TFT display of 5.25inches with 720x1280pixels and 280ppi.The back panel is made of faux leather with fake stitches on the edges, looking like many of Samsung’s tablets. The phone is 10grams heavier and its dimensions are 146.8×75.3×8.9mm.

Hardware and OS

Both phones are powered by a quad core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, but they use different chipsets and GPU: the Xperia C has a Mediatek MT6589 chipset and a PowerVR SGX544 GPU, combined with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of ROM, expandable up to 32GB, while the Grand 2 has a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chipset, an Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5GB of RAM + 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB.

In conclusion, the Grand 2 offers a better performance thanks to the RAM capacity, although you won’t experience any lags when switching between apps. The only problem is when you play games and hit pause.

Both phones are running on Android, but the Xperia C comes with v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), while the Grand 2 has v4.3 (Jelly Bean) and you can upgrade it to v4.4.2 (KitKat).

Cameras

Both phones sport 8MP back cameras with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, HDR, face and smile detection and geo tagging, but it seems that Grand 2’s camera takes pictures of a better quality. The Sony handset has a VGA camera on the back, while Samsung raised the bar for 1.9MP.

Batteries

Both phones have user replaceable Li-Ion batteries. The capacity of Xperia’s battery is 2390mAh, which delivers over 12hours of talk time on 3G, but the Grand 2 has a bigger battery of 2600mAh with which you can talk 17hours on 3G.

Prices

The Xperia C costs around 255 dollars and the pricing for Grand 2 is 312 dollars.
