Micromax released another entrant in the Canvas series, the Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone.
This budget smartphone has been designed, keeping in mind, the common masses. The smartphone is available at $299.99 featuring similar specifications as that of high-end smartphones. In comparison, Motorola has been using peculiar strategies lately. The Moto X gained appreciation in the high-end smartphone segment whereas the Moto G claimed success with its hard to beat price tag. The release of Moto E recently sent the company deeper into the cutthroat entry-level sector of the mobile market. Let us compare the two smartphones for their specs and features.
Design and Display
The Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone by Micromax bears a characteristic budget look. There are not many bare bones defining its design. The smartphone comes equipped with a 5 inches LCD touchscreen. The display has 540×960 pixels resolution and 220-ppi density. The screen size is a plus point for the budget smartphone; however, the low-resolution screen sounds disappointing. The smartphone is 145mm in height and comes with a width of 73mm. The device comes in a thickness of 9.7mm and weighs approximately 147 grams.
The Moto E bears a humble design, similar to that of its predecessor, with not many differences. The device is light in weight, form fitting and compact. The smartphone, with its curved casing and decent construction, caters a comfortable feeling when held. The plastic body has an interchangeable rear casing. There is no front facing camera, the power and volume buttons are on the right, a headset jack on the top and a microUSB port at the bottom. The smartphone has a 5MP camera at the back and a microSD card slot under the casing. The Moto E stands 124.8mm tall and 64.8mm wide. The device weighs 142 grams and is 12.3mm in thickness. The device incorporates a 4.3 inches touchscreen with 540×960 pixels resolution and density of 256-ppi.
Processor and Memory
The Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone comes with a MediaTek chipset with quad core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The device comes with an internal memory of 4GB paired with 1GB of RAM. The Cortex A7 cores offer good power management.
In comparison, the Moto E comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual core Cortex A7 processor running at 1.2GHz. The smartphone has similar internal memory and RAM as that of Canvas 2.2 A114. The processor is good for basic operations but succumbs to rigorous stuff.
Both the smartphones support microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB.
Operating System and Battery
The Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. The device has a 2000 mAh standard unit providing up to seven hours of talk time.
In comparison, the Moto E runs on Android version 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. It would please both the new comers and the hardened Android based smartphone users. The Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone is a good deal, except for the low-resolution display and lacks a powerful battery. However, considering its price, this should not be much of a hamper. The Moto E offers a straightforward, simple and intuitive experience to the user at a very reasonable price.
