Mobile industry has seen very few companies that would wait for twelve months to release its updated version of smartphone.
Samsung Electronics is no exception. This statement holds true, especially in the case of Samsung Galaxy Tab series. The company released Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 in the year 2012 and the successor was released just after a year. The third gen Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 has been implemented with various new features making the device take on a tough competition in the mobile market.
Design, Dimensions, Display
Samsung Electronics released an array of smartphones in the recent years. However, this may be one reason that the design of the third generation Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is similar to its predecessors. Certain aspects and the size of bezel remains the same in both Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. However, the company has made decent efforts to make the second and third generation devices more manageable and less thick.
The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has dimensions measuring 193.7mm in height, 122.4mm in width and 10.5mm in thickness. The device weighs just 344 grams. The 7.1 inches touchscreen with 1024×600 pixels resolution offers decent picture clarity.
The dimensions of Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 measure 188mm x 111.1mm x 9.9mm in height, width and thickness. The device weighs just 304 grams. The 7.1 inches touchscreen with 1024×600 pixels resolution is similar to its predecessor. There has been no improvement in terms of pixel density in the third generation Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. This is a disappointment for the masses.
Hardware and Software
The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is powered with 1000 MHz dual-core processor. The tablet runs on Android 4.0 operating system. Since the device has 1 GB of RAM, the tablet can be upgraded to Android v4.2. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was released in three-color options viz., red, black and white.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is powered with 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. The tablet runs on Android 4.0 operating system. The device also has 1 GB of RAM similar to its predecessor and can be upgraded to Android v4.2 only. The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is available in white color only.
Price
Despite both the devices come in various variants, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is available at $150 for 16GB option having Wi-Fi connectivity only. However, the third generation Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is priced at $180 for a similar spec tablet.
The third generation Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 may be thinner than the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0; the similarities between the two outnumber the differences though.
