Nexus 4 vs Nexus 5 – Comparison of Features and Specifications

Gone are the days of telephone, as smartphones have become the new face of mobile world. LG Electronics in collaboration with Google have developed the Nexus smartphone series. The manufacturer LG Electronics manufactured and marketed the Nexus 4 in November 2012. The first smartphone in this series was the Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus 4, having codename ‘Mako’, is a smartphone that has been co-developed by LG Electronics and Google and is the fourth smartphone in the Google Nexus series. The Nexus 4 was released in November 2012 and gained a positive response from the masses. The quality of its hardware along with its high-end performance earned the Nexus 4 praise from critics. The Nexus 4 was billed at a lower outright price, making it popular among the common masses. After the successful release of Nexus 4, LG Electronics released Nexus 5 in October 2013. The Nexus 5, having codename ‘Hammerhead’, is yet another smartphone in the Google Nexus series. Let us compare the two for their features and specifications.

Design, Dimensions, Display

The Nexus 4 with its sleek design is the fourth smartphone in the Google Nexus series. The Nexus 4 is available in black and white color only. The Nexus 4 have very basic features as compared to other state of the art smartphones. The Nexus 4 measures 133.9mm in height and 68.7mm in width. The Nexus 4 is not heavy in weight. It weighs a mere 139gms. This fourth smartphone in the Google Nexus series comes with 4.7 inches True HD IPS Plus 768×1280 pixels touchscreen. It uses a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating for screen protection. The Nexus 4 has an in-built 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash.

The fifth smartphone in the Google Nexus series, the Nexus 5 is a sleek looking smartphone. It is available in white, black, and red color. The Nexus 5 is slightly bigger than its predecessor. It measures 137.9mm in height and 69.2mm in width. However, the Nexus 5 is light in weight as compared to its predecessor. It weighs just 130gms. The Nexus 5 comes with 4.95 inches True HD IPS Plus 1080×1920 pixels multi touchscreen. The Nexus makes use of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for screen protection. The 8MP camera with 3264×2448 pixels has autofocus, LED flash and optical image stabilization.

Hardware and Software

Externally, the Nexus 4 is a glass-based construction with curves on the sides of its screen. The back of the smartphone has a glass panel. Internally, the Nexus 4 is power-driven by 1.5 Giga Hertz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU with 2GB of RAM. It has an internal memory of 8 or 16 GB. The 2100mAH battery offers talk time and standby time up to 15 hours and 390 hours respectively. The Nexus 4 is shipped with Android OS v4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system that can be upgraded to v4.4.2 (KitKat).

The Nexus 5 is made from a polycarbonate shell externally, unlike its predecessor. The Nexus 5 is powered by 2.26 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2GB RAM. This smartphone runs on Android OS v4.4 (KitKat) operating system that can be upgraded up to v4.4.3 (KitKat). The Li-Po non-removable 2300mAh battery offers talk-time and standby time up to 17 hours and 300 hours respectively.

Price

There is not much difference between the prices of these two smartphones from LG Electronics. The Nexus 4 is billed at $374.99 whereas; the Nexus 5 is billed at just $399.99.

These smartphones from the Google Nexus series are priced reasonably for the common masses. However, there are not many features and specifications in these two smartphones in comparison to other smartphones available in the market.
