The Xperia Z2 is the latest flagship to hit the stores from Sony and it builds upon the market created by the Xperia Z1 – one of the finest products created by Sony in recent years.
The device, though, missed upon a couple of aspects that would have made it a real contender against the likes of the Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. These features seem to have been added on the Xperia Z2, which will be sold alongside the Xperia ZL2.
Sony has not made many changes to the design of both phones and they retain the familiar look, which seems to have become a standard feature of Sony phones in recent years. This could be mainly because of the dust and water resistant feature, which has been continued in these phones as well. The Xperia Z2 and the Xperia ZL2 are water resistant and they will be able to work even under a depth of 1 m.
The Xperia Z2 gets ahead in front by virtue of using a 5.2 inch display, which features a full HD resolution. The Xperia ZL2 also offers a similar resolution, but due to its slightly smaller 5 inch display, it will be able to offer that tiny little more detail. But both these phones offer truly great displays that will bring the best out of the android operating system.
There is little to separate the two phones but memory is one of them. The Xperia Z2 provides only 16 GB of internal memory. There are no variants in this regard, but this device does support external memory cards of up to 128 GB. This kind of memory is comprehensive for any user and there should be little need for any more memory. The Xperia ZL2 is slightly better in this regard due to its 32 GB of internal memory as standard. For those who are comfortable with this amount of capacity, it saves them the additional burden of having to buy a memory card.
The Xperia Z2 joins the ranks of phones like the Galaxy S5 that come with the ability to record 4K videos. The very powerful quad core 2.3 GHz processor from the snapdragon 801 range makes it possible to record these videos using the 20.7 megapixel camera. There is also the option to create slow motion videos at full HD resolution. Super slow motion videos can be recorded at 720p resolution. The camera also provides a built-in HDR mode in the video section.
There is not much to separate the Xperia ZL2 from the Xperia Z2 in terms of the rear camera, but it does have a much better 3.1 megapixel front facing camera. This is one of the best front facing units available in the smartphone segment. It is better than the 2.2 megapixel unit on the Xperia Z2.
The recently launched Xperia Z2 has come at around $ 700 while the prices of the Xperia ZL2 should also be around the same mark when it is available in a few weeks.
