Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Nexus 4 – Software, Storage and Camera Compared

For those looking to lay their hands on a fully loaded smartphone that is also cheap, read on to find differences between Samsung Galaxy S3 and Google Nexus 4 smartphones.

The Nexus 4 is available from Google at an affordable price. On the spec sheet, the Nexus 4 beats the Galaxy S3 easily with a better processor, updated software, more RAM and a better display. In comparison, the Galaxy S3 comes with expandable memory, which is an asset for real power users.

Let us compare the two smartphones in terms of their software, storage and camera specs.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released with Android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. However, with the Jelly Bean update applied to it, the smartphone has been given a significant boost. The OS update is known as Project Butter, providing the processor with immense power for aggressive usage. It would provide the smartphone with requisite power required while loading applications and shifting between parts of the interface.

The Google Nexus 4 runs on newer and quicker Jelly Bean version 4.2 OS as compared to the Jelly Bean version 4.1 OS of the Galaxy S3 smartphone. The Version 4.2 offers new features such as Beam, which enable the users to transfer various files using NFC and the Photosphere -both of which offer the user a 360-degree panorama shot.

Storage

In terms of memory, the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone comes with 16GB and 32GB internal storage capacity variants. However, as all Samsung smartphones come with external memory enhancement options, the Galaxy S3 can enhance its external memory up to 64GB. The S3 also comes with a 64GB internal memory variant, which is not widely available.

In comparison, the Google Nexus 4 comes equipped with 8GB and 16GB internal storage capacity variants. It does not come with external memory enhancement option, providing the user with all-important choice between 8GB and 16GB variant. In addition, the Android operating system and its core apps take up a chunk of its 8GB.

Camera

In terms of camera specs, both these smartphones are similar to each other. Both the smartphones come equipped with an 8MP primary camera featuring an LED flash. However, in terms of the user-facing camera, the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers 1.9MP front facing sensor, in comparison to the 1.3MP user-facing sensor of the Google Nexus 4 smartphone.

In real time usage, the S3 camera is significantly better than the Nexus 4’s camera. The S3 camera offers superior imaging quality in comparison to the Nexus 4 camera.
