What Can We Expect From Star Wars: Battlefront?

As a new Stars Wars movie will be coming out in December, 2015, there is an ever growing hype about this beautiful universe of lightsabers, jedi and sith and the force.

Even though a ton of games has been released, the joy and anticipation of having yet another one in development is steady. Developed by Electronic Arts, Star Wars: Battlefront will be a new game, expected to be released in 2015, but what can we expect from this title?

A New Expanded Universe

As the writers of Star Wars VII have already announced officially, the expanded universe of the series will be entirely scrapped out. However, as the game is expected to be released in correlation to the movie, Star Wars: Battlefront will most probably be a building block of a new expanded universe.

Based on the Frosbite 3 Engine

Developed by DICE, the game will be based on the Frostbie 3 engine, the same source engine used for the development of Battlefield 4. However, as the new Battlefield game had too many issues, DICE halted the development of all other games, until Battlefield 4 was working properly. Although nothing was mentioned about Star Wars: Battlefront, fans are worried that the game may feature the same bugs and issues as Battlefield did.

The Gameplay

Being a solid continuation of the Star Wars: Battlefront series with yet uncertain story, the game will be a first-person shooter. At the E3 2013, DICE revealed a teaser that was featuring footage of a battle set on the planet Hoth and it is said that the game will be “DICE’s interpretation of what Battlefront should be,” while incorporating certain elements that we can see in the previous two games.

Speculation

With fans being unhappy with DICE’s Battlefield 4, most speculations surrounding Star Wars: Battlefront are quite negative saying that the game will be just another shooter with Star Wars elements. However, if DICE manages to incorporate an AAA multiplayer as powerful as the one featured in Battlefield 4, the game may turn out to be a powerful addition to the Battlefront series.

Moreover, the first two games in the series have already been related to the gameplay of Battlefield series in various ways, concentrating heavily on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

More Information

At this point, except the teaser, almost nothing has been officially mentioned about Star Wars: Battlefront. However, as an annual meeting of the stockholders, Blake Jorgenses, the chief financial officer, stated that the game won’t be released later than Q2/Q3 of 2015, thus further making the statement that the game will see the day of light right around the release of the Star Wars VII movie concrete.

More information about the game is yet to be released. Official DICE statements suggest that we will be able to see more from Star Wars: Battlefront at the E3 press conference in 2014, which is just a few weeks away. What would you like to see from this new game? Do you think the developers should focus on a new expanded universe?
