Nokia Lumia 520 vs Nokia Lumia 620 – Comparison of Prices, Specs and Features

Both the Nokia Lumia 520 and the 620 are two of the cheapest available Windows Phone 8 mobile devices, being budget phones that offer a viable alternative to Android smartphones.

The Lumia 520 is available in white and black as well as yellow, blue and red shades, whereas the Lumia 620 comes in white and in black as well as yellow, blue, green and pink and red.

Screen and Display

The Nokia Lumia 520 has a bigger screen when compared to the 620. The Lumia 520 has a screen size of 4-inches, compared to the 3.8 inch display of the 620. Both the devices make use of the IPS panel technology and come with a resolution of 480 x 800 p, offering lower pixel density than some other high-end Windows phones. As the resolution is the same in both the smart devices, the Nokia Lumia 620 has a better screen as it has a smaller screen. In addition, the glass coating offers good protection from any damage and offers a filter against reflection, whereas the 520’s screen is very reflective and this has enabled the company to cut down the price.

Design and Look

If you are bothered about the look of your phone, you should prefer the Lumia 620, which has a better grade finish. Both the phones have plastic bodies, but the Lumia 620 looks better with curvaceous sides. The finish is of a higher grade in the case of the color models of the phone. The 520 has been made from textured plastic, whereas the 620 makes use of a double layer for the finishing, with the upper layer being translucent offering a depth of the phone.

Nokia 620 – Better Connectivity

The Nokia 520 does not have the optional connectivity provided in the 620, such as the NFC and a compass, so the 520 is not future proof, but, nevertheless, it is good enough for present day use. The NFC in the 620 is useful for transferring files and apps and can be useful for making wireless payments in case of shops supporting it. The compass in the 620 enables you to see the direction while using navigation apps. However, both the phones have the GPS, so you can make use of the mapping applications even in the 520 to know your location.

Camera

The Lumia 620 has a rear camera with flash as well as a front camera, whereas the Lumia 520 has only a rear camera of 5-MP. It is impossible to take low-light photographs in the Lumia 520 and it is not possible to have video chatting features. In addition, without a front facing camera, you cannot take selfies or photographs of yourself for posting on Facebook or any other social media. The quality of photographs is pretty much the same in both the devices, as both of them are not high-end cameras. However, the cameras are quick and very easy to produce and are able to produce reasonably good photographs.

Price Comparison

The Nokia Lumia 520 comes with a lot of cuts and compromises, which makes it cheaper than the 620. The Lumia 620 can be bought for around $250, whereas the Lumia 520 is available for a super cheap amount of $180.

Verdict

The Nokia Lumia 620 has some extra bells and whistles missing in the 520. If you want a solid and practical phone, the Lumia 520 is a good bet, as none of these extra baubles matter much. However, the Lumia 620 looks better, so you could go for the Nokia Lumia 620.
