Nokia Lumia 1320 vs Gionee Elife E7 Mini – Comparing Build and Design

Prior to the release of the Lumia series from Nokia, the phablet segment was an exclusive domain of Android-based smartphones.

The entry made by Nokia, in the phablet segment, with its Lumia series Windows Phone, just stepped up the competition. The Lumia 1320, equipped with a 6-inch display, is available at an affordable price range. The Finnish Company achieved stardom with the Lumia series and it has a chance at the top spot in the smartphone battle. However, the $330-odd Windows Phone has to prove to the world it is worthy of accolades.

The Chinese manufacturer, Gionee, has been in the news recently, with its newest releases in the smartphone market. Gionee released its medium range products, equipped with state of the art features and a highly impressive spec sheet as seen in high-end smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer followed the footsteps of its already established counterparts and released the mini version of its successful smartphone. The Elife E7 Mini is also a stripped down version of the Elife E7 smartphone from Gionee. However, the Elife E7 Mini handset has some additional features of its own to flaunt in the market. The octa core processor and a swivel camera are some of the features that the Elife E7 Mini can boast about.

However, let us compare the two smartphones in terms of their build quality and design.

Design and Build Quality

Nokia Lumia 1320

In terms of design, the Nokia Lumia is nothing different from the design offered by its siblings. The polycarbonate plastic chassis coming with a matte finish provides a sturdy look. Unfortunately, the rear panel of the handset leaves a space between the shell and the device, leaving a space, which when pressed hard may succumb to the pressure. The volume, power and two shutter buttons are placed on the side of the handset. The shutter key is a bit too responsive to people’s liking.

The physical dimensions of the Lumia 1320 are 6.46 x 3.38 x 0.39 inches in terms of stature, breadth and thickness respectively. However, the speaker grill, camera and speaker are rather tiny. The phablet weighs 220 grams, which is heavier than other tablets available in the market,

In terms of design and build quality, the Gionee Elife E7 Mini handset is flawless. Despite the handset is made out of plastic, the appearance is premium due to higher quality of material used in its manufacturing. The matte finish enhances the premium even more. The flat sides along with rounded top and bottom edges provide a rectangular bar kind appearance. The glass and rotating camera in the front also adds to the premium look. The 4.7-inch display sports capacitative touchscreen for navigation.

The power and volume controls are situated on the right side of the handset, while the 3.5mm head jack and the microUSB port is placed on the bottom edge of the handset. The dual SIM card slots are placed on the left side of the handset.

The handset rests comfortably in the palm with a curved rear offering a good grip. Overall, the Gionee Elife E7 Mini caters to a premium look and feel to the user.
