Much Awaited Moto X2 Set for September 25 Launch

Motorola has been bringing out some desirable smartphones under the Moto series.

The Moto G may be on its way out, but not before setting the sales charts on fire in the mid-range smartphone segment. The Moto X is also an incredibly successful device, but Motorola is set to announce its replacement considering that the Moto X is well past its life cycle. Rumors about the Moto X’s successor, which could be called as the Moto X2 or the Moto X+1, have been doing rounds in the last few months.

Moto 360 Support

Moto X2 appears to be ready for launch within one month and it could come with a set of features that may very well continue its legacy. One of the biggest expectations in the Moto X2 is that it will be able to support the Moto 360, an upcoming wearable accessory for the Android smartphone. The Moto 360 was recently announced that the Google IO 2014 and it is expected that this device will make it to the stores at the start of September. The design of the Moto 360 has already made it a hot topic in the segment and the Moto X2 could be one of the first devices to support it.

Display

The Moto X came with a 4.7 inch display that offered a maximum 720p resolution. These specifications are expected to get the biggest bump, as Motorola is expected to go with a 5.2 inch display with a full HD resolution for the Moto X2. This large display will take the phone to the leagues of the Xperia Z3, which is set to be announced next week, while also offering more screen real estate than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Performance

Performance is likely to be improved substantially because the Moto X2 will ditch the dual core 1.7 GHz processor used in the previous version, in favor of a quad core 2.2 GHz processor from Snapdragon. It may not be Snapdragon’s top of the line processors, but its performance figures are likely to be more than adequate with such impressive clock speeds. The Moto X offered more than adequate 2 GB of RAM, which even with the latest Android 4.4 is more than adequate. However, it will not be surprising to see the Moto X2 offer 3 GB of RAM. This should help multitasking enormously.

Camera

The 10 megapixel camera on the Moto X has won good reviews for its ability to shoot excellent lowlight pictures. The detailing on the pictures could be improved on the Moto X2, as rumors indicate that the phone will come equipped with a 12 megapixel camera. It is still not clear whether Motorola will use the two or five megapixel camera for the front given the growing trend of ‘selfies’. The Moto X usually did not offer external memory card support and it would be surprising to see this feature introduced on the Moto X2. Rumors about an internal 32 GB offering suggest decent memory capacity for a device that could cost around $500.
