Moto G vs Sony Xperia M2 – Top Price and Specs Comparison

The Moto G reached the markets in 2013 and this May, the company released a 4G LTE version of the phone. The Xperia M2 made its debut also in May and as well as the Xperia M2, it’s a budget friendly phone. So, if you’re intending to buy any of these models, you’d better check out their specs and features first.

Displays and sizes

The Xperia M2’s display is TFT and has the size of 4.8inches, a resolution of 540x960pixels and 229ppi. The Moto G has a slightly smaller display, which is an IPS LCD which supports a higher resolution of 720×1,280pixels and 329ppi.

As for their designs, you’d probably expect from the Xperia M2 to borrow the premium look from other Xperia siblings. Well, it does look nice, but it has a plastic body and Sony decided to use this material in order to make the device light enough, but unfortunately, after a while, you’ll see scratches and fingerprints on the rear.

The Moto G has a plastic body, a sharp HD display and a water resistant coating for the 4G LTE version. The device is 0.46inches thick and it weights 143grams. The thickness of the Xperia M2 is 0.34inches, but it’s heavier, weighting 5grams more.

Hardware and OS

Both of these models are equipped with a Quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 GPU and share the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset. Plus, they run on the Android v4.3 (Jelly Bean) OS with 1GB of RAM. But the Xperia M2’s OS is planned to be upgraded to the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version, while Moto G’s OS is upgradeable to the 4.4.4 (KitKat) version.

The internal memory of the Xperia M2 is of 8MP, which is expandable up to 32GB. The Moto G has two variants of internal memories – 8/16GB, but which can’t be expanded. Though, the 4G LTE variant supports expansion up to 32GB.

Cameras

The Motorola model comes with a weaker primary camera of 5MP, with features such as 2592х1944pixels, autofocus, LED flash, HDR, face detection, touch focus, geo tagging, video recording 720p@30fps etc. The secondary camera is 1.3MP. The Sony handset, on the other hand, has a better rear camera – 8MP with similar features, but the front camera is VGA.

Batteries

Both of the handsets have non-removable batteries: the Xperia M2’s Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 2300mAh, which allows you to talk 14hours. The Moto G features a battery with a lower capacity – 2070mAh, but it seems that it supports up to 24 hours of talk time.

Other specs

Both of the models support Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth v4.0, USB charging, Micro-SIMs, and some of the variants of these phones support also Micro-SIM. Only the Xperia M2 model supports NFC.

The available colors for the Xperia M2 are white, black and purple, while the Moto G comes with a combination of black and white for the front panel, and for the rear panel, you can choose one of the six variants of shades.

The price of Xperia M2 is 321 dollars. The Moto G 4G LTE variant costs 220 dollars and the phone can be bought from amazon.com
