Sony and HTC smartphones have all the features to battle it out for the ultimate smartphone race.
The big gun in the arena, Samsung Electronics is literally taking the initiative away from the other contenders with huge sales of their latest smartphones. Therefore, the onus lies on HTC and Sony to prove that they are capable of what it takes, to stay in the race.
However, both these smartphones come equipped with state of the art features, providing the user with stupendous smartphone experience. Which smartphone out of the two would serve best, catering to the needs of the user, would require a comparison between them. The battle between HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 has just transformed into a war, for supremacy over the other smartphone.
Display
The HTC One M8 comes with smaller and sharper display with its 5 inch screen. However, the difference is negligible between the two in terms of screen size, as the Xperia Z2 comprises of a 5.2 inch display. Both these devices come with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The HTC One M8 has a pixel density of 441-ppi in comparison to the 423-ppi pixel density of the Xperia Z2.
Both have superb display with Sony being the vibrant between the two smartphones.
Design
HTC One M8 comes with a better design measuring at 146.36mm x 70.6mm x 9.35mm and weighs approximately 160 grams. In comparison, the Xperia Z2 measures 146.8mm x 73.3mm x 8.2mm and weighs approximately 163 grams. However, both the devices are solid in build and premium looking smartphones.
The design marks the difference with the HTC One M8 that comes in a rounded aluminium body with front facing speakers. The device feels great when held and is practical to use.
The Xperia Z2 offers a modest glass finish having an aluminium trim for that flat gigantic look. The Z2 offers both IP55 and IP58 for dust-resistant and water-resistant certification respectively. The flat design makes the device uncomfortable to hold and impractical for daily usage.
Despite the statistics being very close, the HTC One M8 wins this round with ease.
Camera
HTC One M8 comes with Duo camera at the back that lacks resolution. In comparison, the Xperia Z2 comes with 20.7MP camera at the rear. However, the front camera of the HTC One M8 comes with 5MP in comparison to the 2.2MP front snapper of the Z2 smartphone.
Processor, RAM and Battery
Both the smartphones come equipped with dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset running at 2.3GHz. However, the Z2 comes with a RAM of 3GB in comparison to the 2GB RAM of the HTC One M8.

Verdict
Both these devices go extremely close on the spec sheet. However, both have pros and cons of their own. Choosing between the two would be a difficult task. The choice is left to the personal preference of the user. The HTC offers a unique design and the Sony offers a great camera experience along with a larger display. The HTC One M8 offers better sound quality with front BoomSound speakers.
