The Nokia Lumia 1520 is a monster tablet released after the previous version Nokia Lumia 1020. Does the new Windows phone handset push the older device out of the competition? Let’s find out.

Size Comparison

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is larger than the Lumia 1020. The Lumia 1520 comes with dimensions of 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm, whereas the Lumia 1020 has smaller dimensions of 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm. The 1520 is also heavier at 209g compared to the 158g of the 1020. The display screen of the 1520 is also larger at 6 inches, compared to the 4.5 inches of the 1020.

The Lumia 1020 runs on the ClearBlack AMOLED display technology and offers a brilliant display of 1280 x 768 p resolution, with a ppi of 334. However, the display of the Lumia 1520 is better, as it also comes with the ClearBlack technology, but with LCD and not AMOLED.

The resolution is also higher at 1920 x 1080p and the ppi is higher at 367, offering better detail and an improved Windows Phone experience.

Camera Comparison

The camera of the Nokia Lumia 1020 comes with a resolution of 41 MP rear camera and an aperture of f/2.2. On the other hand, the Lumia 1520 comes with a lower resolution of 20 MP and an aperture of f/2.4.

The Lumia 1020 features a Xenon flash, whereas the 1520 has a dual LED flash. Both the cameras have Zeiss optics and OIS or optical image stabilization features. The zoom of the 1020 is also higher at 3x, compared to the 2x zoom of the 1520.

Performance and Battery

The Lumia 1520 comes with a battery of 3400 mAh and has a Qi built in it for wireless charging. The capacity of the 1020 is much lower at 2000 mAh. You can also avail wireless charging features in the 1020 with an accessory cover, but the feature is not built in the device.

The 1520 will offer you around 25 hours of 3G talk time with around ten hours of video playing. On the other hand, the Lumia 1020 offers 13 hours of 3G talk time and 6 hours of video playback time. The Lumia 1520 is also much faster, as the quad core processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, clocking at 2.2 GHZ, powers it.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core and is clocked at 1.5 GHz. However, both the devices have a RAM of 2GB.

Storage Specs

The Nokia Lumia 1020 comes in two variants, with a 32GB and 64 GB version, whereas the Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with 32 GB internal storage. However, the Lumia 1520 offers the option of a micro SD card for expanding up to a maximum of 64 GB. Both the phones offer a 7 GB of SkyDrive with cloud storage facilities.

Both the phones also offer the regular connectivity features of Wi Fi, NFC and WLAN as well as Bluetooth. However, the Lumia 1520 has a Bluetooth 4.0 version compared to the older 3.0 version in the 1020.

User Interface

The Lumia 1520 has an additional third column in order to house the live tiles in the front. The Lumia 1520 also comes with the latest OS from Windows Phone and offers customized ringtones, a driver mode as well as updates from Bing.

The Nokia Beamer enables sharing the phone screen with other screens through the internet. There are also some improvements in the photo applications of the Lumia 1520. However, all these improvements should also be soon available on the Lumia 1020 as well, with the Nokia Black update, though not the three-column feature.

The Lumia 1520 is more expensive at around $750 compared to the Lumia 1020, which comes at around $425.
