(SPRINGFIELD, Mo.) Scott Eckersley, the democratic candidate for the seventh congressional district, announced Tuesday that he would move forward with a 10-county tour.

The “Give ‘em Eck” tour will start next Tuesday, nine weeks from election day, and spread until September 17. Eckersley will spend a day in each county, where on each stop, he is planning on meeting with residents, visiting a business, and holding an availability for reporters on each county’s courthouse steps at noon.

“The people of southwest Missouri need a person who won’t back down and will work tirelessly for them. I’m an independent guy committed to putting people ahead of party,” said Eckersley in a statement.

Eckersley says he is visiting each county because “there’s never been a more important time for Southwest Missouri’s values to be represented in Washington.”

A spokesman for his campaign says that his opponent, Springfield auctioneer Billy Long, has been invited to each event, and has been “encouraged” to reconsider the offer to debate which was extended to Long following August 3rd’s primary election.

Long’s campaign was not immediately available for comment, but said to TFJ last week that they have “attended three forums with Eckersley already,” and suggested they would be open to more if the details could be worked out.
