Motorola Moto G vs HTC One Mini 2 – Best Specs and Features Comparison

The budget smartphones market is just as competitive as the high-end branch, as leading brands constantly come up with solutions for those with light wallets. Some of the most praised budget smartphones available are the HTC One Mini 2 and the Moto G from Motorola. If you’re looking for a smartphone that can provide you with decent features and performance without blowing up your savings account, these two are probably on your checklist. Check this article to see which device comes out as the best and why.

Design

The HTC One Mini 2 kept some of the design elements from its big brother off of which it’s based, namely the HTC One M8. It swapped the aluminum around the edges with plastic, but the metallic finish on the back is still in place. It also has the curved back. This makes it very comfortable to hold, just like the One M8.

The Moto G on the other hands ditched any chance of a metallic finish for a full polycarbonate chassis with rounded edges that complement the device nicely.

When talking about sizes, it’s down to what you prefer, as the Moto G is the thinner device, but also the heaviest when compared to the HTC device.

Display

The display department was a close call, as both smartphones pack a 4.5 inch screen with a display resolution of 720 x 1280. The difference that gives the Moto G the upper hand is the fact that it comes with a better pixel density. It has 329 ppi whil the One Mini 2 has only 326 ppi.

Hardware

Once again, there’s nothing much to compare, as both device house identical specifications for the hardware department. The chipset used to handle the processing in both cases is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, clocked at 1.2 GHz for both handsets. The CPU is backed up by 1 full GB of RAM for both the One Mini 2 and the Moto G. The internal memory options really emphasize the whole “budget” element, as the HTC One Mini 2 only offers one model, with 16 GB of storage, plus microSD support for up to 128 GB, whereas the Moto G only offers 8 and 16 GB of storage. Sure, you can add up to 128 GB via microSD on the Moto G as well, but only on the 4G version. The 3G model does not support microSD.

When it comes down to cameras, the HTC One Mini 2 can brawl with the best of them, as it features a 13 MP camera on the rear, and a complementary 5 MP shooter in the front. We can’t say the same about the Moto G, which only has 5 MP on the rear lens, and another 1.3 MP in the front. The Moto G can shoot 720p video while the One Mini 2 can shoot at 1080p.

In terms of connectivity, the HTC One Mini 2 has all you could ask for, like 3G, 4G, Wifi, Bluetooth and NFC, whereas its Motorola opponent comes in two separate versions, one for 3G and one for 4G.

Software

Despite their low-end status, these devices come with the Android 4.4 KitKat. HTC topped it off with a personal touch, adding the Sense 5 user interface to their device’s operating system.

The HTC One Mini 2 is about $440 on Amazon.com, whereas on the same website, the Moto G won’t set you back more than $200

Conclusion

Even though the One Mini 2 clearly wins over the Moto G, and is without doubt superior, it comes with a major flaw, which is its price tag. Although justified in a way due to its specs and such, the price knocks it had off the “budget phone” wagon, so it doesn’t really fit the purpose.
