Moto G Gets New and Improved Version: Features and Price

In the words of Motorola, “what happens when an exceptional smartphone gets even better”?

You get even more exceptional phone – a best seller. That is what Motorola has done with the new version of Moto G. The fun part is, the phone will probably get the name “New Moto G”. A simple, yet elegant decision by Motorola.

Motorola Moto G has been the most sold Motorola smartphone till date, and one of the most successful budget smartphones on the market. Now, with the much anticipated successor here, Motorola has an even better phone to put on the market. Several sources have indicated the phone has already been shipped to India and China. It wasn’t much of a surprise that the new handset was revealed. However, Motorola has managed to improve every aspect of its best selling device, and still keep the price below $200. Considering the market of smartphones, this is a remarkable achievement by the smartphone manufacturer.

Design and Display

The new Moto G follows the same design patterns as its predecessor, but it has improved in some key aspects. For example, the phone now has a 5-inches 720 HD display and is thinner. The larger display comes with a price though, as the phone is now heavier (weighing 149 grams), and feels different in the hand. However, it is still comfortable, despite the 5-inches screen size. Motorola opted not to increase screen resolution, sacrificing a little bit of screen density in the process. The sharpness is still good, and since the display is IPS LCD, viewing angles are good too. Rear cover of the device can be changed to have different colors. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Hardware and Operating System

The New Moto G still gets its power from a Snapdragon 400 processor, a quad-core clocked at 1.2GHz with 1 GB of RAM memory. The improvement here is in the storage. The new version has 8/16 GB internal storage memory, but with a slot for microSD card, it can get additional 32 GB memory.
The New Moto G runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out from the box, and can get the upgrade to Android L, once the new OS is available. The downside is that the phone can connect only to 3G network.

Camera

Another area of improvement is the camera. The New Moto G boasts an 8-MP rear facing camera and a 2-MP front facing camera.

Battery

Sadly, no improvement has been made in the battery section. The New Moto G features the same 2070 mAh battery. With increased screen size and more power, the battery will have its hands full. Users can expect less durability from the New Moto G.

Price

This is the best part. Even though Motorola has made improvements in almost every area, the price of the New Moto G stays the same at $179. The price makes the New Moto G one of the best midrange smartphones on the market. Moto G was highly successful, to the point of being a bestseller. Motorola can only hope that the New Moto G follows its predecessor footsteps. Armed with dual SIM and improved specifications, it looks like the sky is the limit for the New Moto G.
