Microsoft Surface Pro 3 vs Apple iPad 2 – Specs and Features Compared

The Surface Pro 3 has a power-loss protection; it is affordable and has awesome performance.

The AC adapter is compact and has a USB charging port. The device itself has a light feel and still manages to feel and look premium, thanks to the metal finish at the back. This is one of the best Windows devices around that gives you a nice feeling.

The integrated touchpad is okay even though it is not precise enough. Its palm ejection sucks and two-handed operation is close to impossible. On the other hand, the keyboard is an engineering miracle as the keys are worlds apart; but the keyboard still manages to be thin. Unfortunately, it does not have a print-screen button and to do this, you will have to double-click the back of the stylus.

The stylus is a great addition to the tablet; but the down-side is that it does not have a place to tuck away, for those times that you are not using it. However, the manufacturers do say that you can stick it to the magnetic charging port when you are not using it. So what happens when you want to charge the device? You will have to buy a type of cover that comes with a rubber on the side to store your pen.

The surface Pro 3 comes with a 12 inch display and a resolution of 1920x1080p HD. This translates to a higher ppi so it is 216ppi. The Pro 3’s surface is larger and its display is the same as that of previous generations. It also has different processor options and the Intel Core i7 is the most powerful one. It also has the following storage option versions – 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and lastly 512GB.

Price

The Surface Pro 3 Intel Core i3 with 64GB costs $699, Intel Core i5 128GB has a price tag of $999 and the 256GB goes for $1299. Intel Core i7 version of 256GB storage has a starting price of $1549.

Apple iPad 2

The iPad 2, is a second attempt by Apple, to further perfect their runaway success with the first iPad. This device is faster, thinner and has two cameras. Other than that, it is the same as the former. In other words, the features, capacity, price and size are all the same except the color. Now, you get to choose between the black and white versions. It also comes in a 16 GB version, 32GB version and a 64GB version.

This thin device measures at 0.34 inches, making it thinner than iPhone4. The back of the iPad is made of aluminum to fit its internal components. The iPad’s face is made with scratch-proof glass having the home button located at the bottom of the screen and it has a front-facing camera located at the top of the iPad.

The headjack and wake/sleep buttons are at the same place. The camera comes with a 720p capture for video. The camera does not have flash and it takes photos that are pretty much still. This iPad version also comes with the original iPad cases and works with 1st generation accessories – chargers, video cables, speakers, adapters and docks. These covers come in two different materials – polyurethane at $39 and leather for $59.

Price

The base model for the iPad 2 is $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB.
