Micromax has made quite an entry into the smartphone arena with its reasonably priced and high spec-sheet handsets.
The company has understood the pulse of the masses, which have been waiting for bigger screen handsets coming at a reasonable price. The company worked on the principle followed by the Korean giant, Samsung Electronics, when it comes to wooing the masses with decent offerings at reasonable prices.
The Canvas 2.2 A114 handset, released by Micromax, is yet another budget friendly smartphone in the Canvas lineup. The smartphone comes equipped with a 5-inch display, which has become a standard display for flagship Android smartphones. The earlier handsets from Micromax come equipped with MediaTek processor. However, the company made use of the latest quad core MT6582M chipset, designed by Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek.
In comparison, the Motorola’s Moto E handset follows the footsteps of its predecessors and caters the masses with a reasonably priced $130 (off contract price), smartphone. The earlier versions, such as the Moto X and the Moto G, released by Motorola proved that the smartphones do not require beefy spec sheet or a plethora of features to become successful. Whether simplicity is enough to beat the smartphones from other companies, which comes equipped with beefy spec sheet and an array of updated features, could be a good point for debate.
However, let us compare the Micromax Canvas 2.2 A114 smartphone to the Moto E in terms of their camera and storage features.
Camera
The Micromax smartphone comes with a dual camera – 8MP rear and 2MP user facing camera. However, the handset could have done better with a bigger sensor. Regardless, an average sensor with responsive hardware can produce better results than most high-end cameras. The 2MP user facing camera is great for video calling and selfies.
In comparison, the Moto E, which does not come equipped with high-end gimmicks, also lacks in the camera department. It comes with similar camera features as that of the Moto X and the Moto G smartphones. The camera only focuses on clicking snaps quickly.
The camera neither comes with manual controls, nor with significant shooting modes. Rather, the camera comes equipped with panoramic and HDR modes.
The 5MP camera does not boast of a notable quality. It offers soft details, worst image quality under low light and more noise. Overall, the Moto E does not fare well in terms of camera features.
Storage
The Micromax smartphone comes with a ROM of 4GB since the past two years, similar to that of its other siblings. The company should contemplate on enhancing the on-board ROM to more than 4GB now. However, the microSD card slot for enhancing external memory is a consolation for the potential users. The external microSD card slot can enhance the memory up to 32GB.
In comparison, the Moto E does not come equipped with power in the hardware department. A dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC coupled with a RAM of 1GB and the Adreno 302 graphic processor powers the Moto E smartphone. The processor can aptly handle basic operations but would succumb under testing times. The Moto E comes equipped with a 4GB of internal storage capacity, providing the user with 2.21GB of actual memory. However, a microSD card for memory enhancement takes care of extra memory requirements.
