iPhone 6 Plus vs Sony Xperia Z3 – Comparison of Specs, Features and Price

It was definitely time for Apple to enter the big boys’ league of devices with 5+ inches screen display.

The company has delivered a quality 5.5 inches phablet, but how does it compare with some of the popular Android devices. Both the iPhone 6 Plus and the Xperia Z3 are new handsets, released in September. Therefore, one can hope only the best and the latest technology from them. Stay with us as we compare their specs.

Design and Display

Sony has decided to follow the path of the highly popular Z2 model, and apply the same principles in the Z3 model as well. Apple, on the other hand, has completely redesigned the latest iPhone model. The iPhone 6 Plus sure feels like a more premium device. However, the downside is the device is harder and less ergonomic in the hand. The Z3 features 5.2 inches screen display, with resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and density of 424ppi. The device comes with multi touch feature display, and users can operate with up to 10 fingers. The iPhone 6 Plus boasts of a 5.5 inches screen display, with the same resolution of 1080×1920 pixels as the Z3. However, due to the larger screen, the density is lower at 401ppi. Dimensions of the devices are as following: Z3 – 146x72x7.3 weighting 152 grams; iPhone 6 Plus – 151x78x7.1 weighing 172 grams. One advantage the iPhone 6 Plus has is the alleged Sapphire glass protection, a much better and improved cover protection than the shutter proof glass found on the Z3.

Hardware and Operating System

This is where things get interesting. Both devices have some unique features. For example, Z3 comes with PS4 Remote Play, a feature that allows users to connect their handset with their PS4. Another nifty feature is the DSEE HX technology for better sound quality. Apple’s device, on the other hand, comes equipped with NFC technology, armed to revolutionize the mobile payment system.

Sony’s handset features one of the most powerful Snapdragon 801 quad core processors, clocked at 2.5GHz and supported by 3GB of RAM memory. Not much is known about the processor of the iPhone 6 Plus, except that it is a 64bit A8 chip. The actual numbers and specs of the processor are yet to be revealed, but the company promises to deliver 30-40% better performances than the iPhone 5C. Just for comparison, the 5C features dual core processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 1 GB of RAM memory. However, the 64bit chip is what makes all the difference. The Z3 has low internal storage memory, capped at 32GB, but users can add additional 128 GB memory via microSD card. Apple’s device still doesn’t have an external slot, but it comes with 16/64/128 GB of internal space.

As we mentioned, both OS are extremely good. Apple’s new iOS 8, featured on the iPhone 6 is in a league of its own. However, the Z3 can compete; thanks to the personal skin and the added Sony features to the already excellent Android 4.4 KitKat.

Camera

The camera found in the Z3 is an extremely powerful 20.7-MP rear facing sensor with ISO 12800-sensitivity. With such power, the device can capture photos of up to 5248×3936 pixels and record videos of 2160p at 30fps and 720p at 120fps. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with an 8-MP sensor, equipped with optical image stabilization. The advantage is that Apple’s device has is the dual LED flash. Thanks to it, the iPhone 6 Plus captures a lot more quality pictures in low light conditions.

Battery

The Z3 features non removable 3100 mAh battery that can handle up to 16 hours of talk time on 3G network. Apple hasn’t provided much information about battery capacity of the iPhone 6 Plus. However, the company claims the device can handle 12 hours of internet usage and talk time.

Price

The alleged price of the Z3 should be in the range of $700 for SIM free version, while the iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $749 for an off contract version.
