iPad Mini 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 – Comparison of Design between Arch Rivals Apple and Samsung

Apple released the iPad Mini 2 tablet, with just one omission – lack of Retina Display.

However, it redeemed its mistake by releasing the Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display. The tablet comes equipped with the most sought after Retina Display and a couple of other enhanced features. However, the price of the tablet was on a higher side at $399, for the base variant. The price tag made the tablet not competent to fight against the mid-range and cheaper devices.

In comparison, Apple’s arch-rival, Samsung rejoiced on its successful launch of the Galaxy Tab series. However, the Galaxy Tab has now been entitled nothing more than the entry level variant for Samsung. Regardless, the release of Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is notably the first Android based tablet, which comes equipped with an Intel treatment inside.

Today, we compare Apple iPad Mini 2, in terms of design, to Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 handset.

Design

Apple iPad Mini 2

iPad Mini 2 is a second generation tablet, which comes in a similar design as that of its predecessors. It might not come as a disappointment for the users, as the design of the iPad Mini series continues to be on the premium list; especially, when compared to its arch-rival’s plastic manufactured devices. The iPad Mini comes with similar aluminum chassis, as that of its predecessors, providing a robust and clean look. However, the color options are also the same, with silver and space grey options.

The iPad Mini comes with curved edges, a thinner profile and lightweight body, offering a pleasant feeling to the user when held in the palm.

The iconic home button, just below the display, and the user facing 1.2MP camera with light sensor marks the features on the surface of the iPad Mini 2 tablet. However, the unchanged design marks ports and buttons placed exactly the same way as on that of its predecessors.

On the back, the 5MP camera with iSight, featuring an f2.4 aperture lens, illuminated sensor, 1080p video recording and digital image stabilization graces the handset.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

In comparison, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 also comes with a similar design as that of its predecessors. The dark glossy plastic back surrounded with silver colored trim, makes it a home for fingerprints and smudges, which are very hard to wipe away and clean. Regardless, the skinny profile and lightweight feature of the Samsung’s tablet offers the user with a comfortable holding experience for a long duration of time. Interestingly, Samsung reduced the right and left side bezels, making the device smaller at 9.57-inch in breadth; smaller in width than its predecessors.

The buttons and ports on the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 are similarly placed as that of the Galaxy S4 handset. It would not be wrong to suggest that the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is identical to Galaxy S4 handset, though in the tablet form.

The tablet is equipped with a dual camera, 3.2MP rear camera and the 1.3MP user facing camera, which shoots video at 720p and VGA respectively.

Verdict

Both the devices are suitably designed to meet the requirements of the potential buyer.
