HTC One M8 Vs LG G3 – Specs, Features And Prices Compared

Both the HTC One M8 and the LG G3 are powerful Android devices and can be rated as some of the best handsets of 2014.

Here is a head to head comparison of the two phones.

The Design and Build

From a distance, these two phones look somewhat similar in terms of design and build. They both feature an elongated front side and rounded corners. However, a closer look will reveal that there are certain features that stand out from both handsets.

The LG G3’s button placement is one of the main differences between the two. Unlike the common placements of the volume buttons to the side of the phone, the G3 places its buttons at the back. On the other hand, the HTC One M8 buttons are situated on the sides.

The LG G3 comes with a removable back plate and battery. This works well for users who like carrying a space charged battery with them. The HTC One M8 does not have a removable back cover, even though it is sturdier than the LG G3. The back chassis is made from pure metal. The HTC One M8 is also more mark and scratch resistant than the LG G3.

Even so, the pure metal rear side of the HTC One M8 makes it slightly heavier than the LG G3, which weighs 149g while the One M8 weighs 160g.

The Display

The LG G3 comes with a 5.5 inch screen with a resolution of 1440×2560 and 534ppi. It has a True HD-IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen. There is not much of a difference with the 5 inch 1080×1920 resolutions with a 441ppi density, super LCD capacitive touchscreen used in the HTC One M8.

This means that both phones offer excellent viewing and displays from different angles. Even so, a closer look reveals that the icons on the G3 are sharper than those i9n the One M8 and also the G3 display offers more brightness levels than the HTC One M8.

The Operating System and Software

Both phones run on the latest Android version, the KitKat 4.4 Android OS. Even so, only the HTC One M8 phone promises the ability to upgrade as soon as the Lollipop Android version is made available. Since the HTC One M8 integrates some HTC features into the operating system, it is easier to use than the G3.

Camera and Performance

Both phones are powered by the quad-core processor that runs the QUALCOMM Snapdragon 801 version and comes with 2GB worth of RAM. This places both phone at the same performance level with the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Even so, prolonged use of both phones will reveal that the HTC One M8 has better performance than the G3, which can become slow when running multiple apps at the same time.

When it comes to cameras, the HTC One M8 comes loaded with a 4.1 ultra-pixel camera that features the duo camera function while the G3 comes with a 13MP rear camera that features the laser auto focus function. Both phones show great improvements in terms of image quality.

Space, Price and Battery

The HTC One M8 features a 2600mAh battery, which can offer up to seven and a half hours of battery time. On the other hand, the G3 features a 3000mAh battery but can only last up to 6 hours. Both phones feature 16GB worth of internal storage with an extra 28GB microSD chips.

The LG G3 is slightly cheaper than the One M8. The LG G3 retails at approx. $823 while the HTC One M8 retails at approx. $905.
