Can Apple Win Over Android Phones with the Latest iPhone?

For several years, the main reasons users were choosing Android handsets were pretty simple: larger screen and the open customization of the Android OS.

However, it seems Apple has minimized this difference with the launch of the two new flagships, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The question remains, should you now opt for an iPhone, or do Android phones still have some advantages that are worth sticking to your device?

The Screen is still Better in Android Phones

While Apple has managed to match the screen size of some of the larger Android smartphones and tablets, the advantage in screen resolution and pixel density is still in the Android’s yard. Just for comparison, the iPhone 6 produces a pixel density of 326 ppi. Some of the Android devices in that range, like the Nexus 5 (445ppi) for example, produce a lot more density. The larger iPhone delivers slightly better resolution, set at 1920×1080, which translates to 401ppi. Now compare that to the 534ppi of LG G3, or the 441ppi of HTC One M8, or the 515ppi of Note 4. While there is more to the screen than the resolution and density, Android phones are superior in this section.

More RAM memory

It seems like it was ages ago when 1GB RAM memory was considered powerful and good. Android phones have largely improved in this section, going up to 3GB of RAM memory, while Apple sticks to the 1GB. While it is true that the iOS is less dependent on RAM memory than Android, there are times when having more RAM comes in handy. Example, multi tasking. Just try to open more than 3 tabs in an iPhone, and you’ll notice the difference.

More memory storage

Even the best version of iPhone 6 cannot produce as much memory as an Android device. The reason is the external slot. While we have yet to see an Android device with 128 GB of built in memory space, the option to add a microSD card offers a lot more flexibility. For example, users can choose a cheaper version with less built in memory, and then buy an additional microSD slot. For Apple users, the 128 GB version of the iPhone is a lot more expensive.

Price

The price of Android Phones is usually 10-20% lower than the one for a competitive iPhone.

The Good Old Android

Many experts were quick to applaud Apple for the introduction of NFC technology in the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Well, NFC technology has long been a part of the Android OS. In Fact, many of the features Apple introduced in the new iOS 8, have been standard options for the Android. Also here we can mention the option to connect to third party. While Apple has just added the option to connect to third party keyboards, the option has been there for quite some time on Android devices. And there are still features that Apple hasn’t introduced yet. Here are some of them.

Customization: While you can change the wallpaper on an iPhone, that is as much as you can customize your device. Android devices offer different themes, widgets, ability to change colors and lots more.

Drag and drop: Simply connect your phone to a computer, and you can start sharing everything. That is, if you use an Android device. For iPhone users, the only option is to drag and drop photos from the camera application. For everything else, you have to bother with iTunes.

Google: There is no question that Apple is a tech giant. But Google is no slouch as well. Google Apps work a lot better on Android phones, which is understandable. After all, Google supports the OS.
