Apple is known for bringing perfection to an already existing product.
Rarely does the company innovate and come up with a new product. And this is why the launch of Apple Watch is important not just to Apple fans, but to everyone else as well. The market for smartwatches is a rising one. And if we are honest, it grows rapidly, and soon enough might threaten the market for smartphones. At the moment, smartwatches are compatible with handsets and complement them. But what was considered a luxury two years ago, nowadays owning a smartwatch is considered a common thing. How does Apple’s smartwatch compare with the existing market? We compare it with one of the best smartwatches on the market, the LG G Watch R.
Design and Display
With the number of Android smartwatches increasing, the key to success is to offer a better design. And the G Watch R does exactly that. LG has accepted the new trend, and has changed the design of the G Watch R to a round screen. LG’s watch looks more like the traditional watch, while Apple’s square shaped device is more of an unconventional wristwatch. The G Watch R comes with a stainless steel frame, a standard 22mm size and a leather strap. It is available in both black and silver color. Apple’s watch is available in two sizes (38mm and 42mm) and three collections, giving users more flexibility. Strap options include leather bracelet, classic buckle and Milanese loop among others. And the display also offers several customization options, from time lapse, motion, photos, and even a Mickey Mouse themed display. The display of the LG G Watch R is a P-OLED 1.3 inch display, with resolution of 320×320. An added benefit is that the bottom part is not cut off, giving users more screen space.
Hardware and Operating System
Apple Watch features a custom S1 processor, which is all the information available at the moment. There is a built in memory storage, but how much is it, is unknown at the moment. However, users can store music. We might get an idea how much music can be stored, once the watch hits the market. The watch supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Some of the features include heart rate sensor, waterproof speaker, an accelerometer, digital touch and lots more. The downside is that the watch cannot function alone, as it must be connected to an iPhone in order to function. What we know is that it is compatible with the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5, 5S and 5C, meaning older models can connect to the watch as well. The G Watch R packs a Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz processor, 512 MB RAM memory and 4GB built in memory storage. Apple has packed the watch with some cool features in the OS, designed especially for the smartwatch. LG G Watch R runs on the Android Wear OS, which is highly customizable very Google friendly OS.
One of the downsides of the Apple Watch is that it is only compatible with Apple products, namely the iPhone. But that has always been the case with Apple’s products. G Watch R, on the other hand, is compatible with all Android smartphones, not just LG, but Motorola, Samsung, HTC and others.
The original G Watch suffered from a low battery capacity, and users were furious at LG. The company released the new generation, G Watch R with the same battery, though it claims to last for two days. Apple, on the other hand, hasn’t shed much light regarding the battery found in the Apple Watch.
At the moment, the price for the Apple Watch is set to start at $350. Keep in mind this is the most basic version. The luxury versions with 18-Karat gold are surely to be more expensive. The alleged price for LG G Watch R, on the other hand, is set to be in the range of $300-$350.
