Apple iPhone 5S Vs Samsung Galaxy S5 – Two Superior Flagships Battle

Both the Apple’s latest flagship and Samsung’s latest flagship are worthy phones deserving all the praise received. However how to choose between two top rivals when both are outstanding? It is simpler to match the IPhone 5S vs Samsung Galaxy S5 to see if there can be a conclusion as to which is the ultimate smartphone for 2014 thus far.

Display, Design and Build

The iPhone 5S features a 4-inch Corning Gorilla LCD Glass Display, only 4mm thickness in bezels allowing the screen to use over 60 percent of the front surface. Screen resolutions of 1.136 x 640 and 377 ppi but unfortunately cannot take 720p footage or play FULL HD video. The Galaxy S5 on the other hand features a larger Corning Gorilla AMOLED 5/1-inch display with even thinner bezels than the iPhone 5S at only 3mm. the screen resolutions are higher than that of the iPhone with 1.920 x 1.080 and pixel density of 432 ppi and can play Full HD video.

The iPhone is made from anodized aluminum and diamond cut chamfered edges, feeling like the premium, first-class device it is. Three available colors are Grey, Silver and Gold and dimensions of 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and a weight of 112g. Galaxy S5 does not have the premium appearance of the iPhone, with its dimpled soft-touch plastic rear, but has an easier grip. Samsung does add style to the front with the black finish; however, the completely plastic device cannot compete with the iPhone’s classy elegance. Its different colors are Blue, Gold, Black and White and it is larger than the iPhone with the dimensions of 142 x 73 x 8.1mm with a weight of 145g.

Hardware, Software and Camera

IPhone 5S runs the Apple IOS operating system with ARM v8-based 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. The internal storage availabilities are 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and 1.560MAh battery, giving it excellent battery life. On the other side the Galaxy runs on a Android OS v4.4.2 KitKat with a Snapdragon 801 processor, which runs at 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and a fast Adreno 330 GPU. Two size options in the 16GB or 32GB versions and even though it does not have a 64GB version the MicroSD slot can take cards of 128GB. The Samsung has a better battery than the iPhone in the Li-Ion 2800MAh and obviously better battery life as a result.

The iPhone 5S has an 8MP camera with 3.264 x 2.448 resolutions and dual LED flash. Camera features slow-motion function, records Full HD video at 30fps with the third inch sensor featuring 1.5 pixels. Galaxy S5 features a 16 megapixels camera with 5.312 x 2.988 resolutions. It also uses ISOSCEL sensor technology in preventing leaks between pixels and reduces crop factor. The camera has the ability to record Ultra HD 4K 3.840 x 2.160 video at 30 frames per second as well a shooting HD video. The 1.2.6 inch sensor has smaller pixels than the iPhone at 1.241 pixels.

Is There a Clear Winner?

Both have outstanding features and as far as design is concerned and overall appearance the iPhone, 5S may be the winner. However, take into consideration the Samsung Galaxy S5 with better speed, a full 1GB more RAM and MicroSD card slot that can take up to 128GB internal storage. The Samsung also takes better pictures as well as videos, has a bigger screen, so it may seem that the preferred phone should maybe be the Samsung Galaxy S5.
