The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Developer Responds To Upset Fans

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is one of the most anticipated titles for 2015 which is getting released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

CD Projekt RED is the team behind this title which the developers claim has the potential to be the next benchmark game in terms of graphics, after Crysis 3. A special collector’s edition has been revealed for the game for all platforms which will come bundled with an artbook featuring the work that went in to making the game, a custom made Geralt figurine battling with the griffin dragon, a full map of the game world, exclusive soundtrack, steelbook to keep your game safe for many years, stickers and a collector’s box.

All this sounds amazing but the developers have decided to offer something exclusive in addition to the above said items for the Xbox One collector’s edition, which includes a competitive card game played virtually, using the bundled decks of Gwent cards as well as a cloth map, which is printed on high quality material that lasts longer than paper ones.

Developer Explains

Many gamers who love The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt game loved the collector’s edition as well but they were not happy with the fact that two different items are being provided only for Xbox One owners whereas others may never get it because of the exclusivity deal.

The co-founder of the development team, Marcin Iwinski said, “We are providing such exclusive items because we need strong partnership and our partners help us market the game on a global scale. When they help us in such scenarios, it is mandatory that we give them something that is not shared by everyone else. And, we believe that such associations will help in increasing the overall sales. The revenue that we generate will allow us to reinvest the money earned to make more RPGs in a better way while retaining our core values.”

No Retailer Exclusive DLCs

While they will have specific items for the Xbox One’s collector’s edition, CD Projekt RED confirmed that The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt will not have retailer exclusive DLCs anytime in the future. They will also not keep any maps or in-game content specific to any platform, be it Xbox One or Playstation 4. The company believes that their main objective is to give DRM free content to users which can be enjoyed as it is without too much restriction. He added, “if you still believe that a set of gwent cards and a cloth map betrays our core values, we will be really sad but the final decision is yours to make. We do have more great things to announce for the game in the coming months but it will not be related to exclusives, but rather content that can enjoyed by all.”

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is scheduled to launch on Feb 24 in 2015 on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. The developers have also revealed a six minute game play video for the title during Gamescom 2014.
