Sony Xperia Z2 vs Xiaomi Mi4 – Top Price and Specs Comparison

The Xperia Z2 has been on the market for some time already and the sales are going well, because Sony found the right formula/combination of features to make the Z2 a powerful smartphone. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has just released the Mi4 in July and it will reach the store shelves from all over the world.

Displays, designs and sizes

The Mi4 has a slightly smaller display with the size of 5inches which comes bundled with a resolution of 1080x1920pixels, which is also supported by Xperia Z2’s 5.2inches display. Both of these smartphones are equipped with IPS LCD screens, but they offer different pixel densities: 441ppi – on the Mi4 and 424ppi on the Xperia Z2.

What else can be added? Oh, the fact the Xperia Z2’s glass is shatter proof, it uses the Triluminos display technology combined with Sony’s proprietary X-Reality Engine, which help the screen provide a perfect color and image reproduction. Also, the phone is water and dust resistant, it measures 146.8×73.3×8.2mm and it weights 163grams.

The Xiaomi phone measures 139.2×68.5×8.9mm and it’s 20grams lighter and its body is made of plastic, but it has a premium look thanks to the metal-like frame.

Hardware and OS

These smartphones share the same quad-core Krait 400 processor, based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC and they use an Adreno 330 GPU. However, the Mi4’s processor is faster because it’s clocked at 2.5GHz, while the Xperia Z2’s CPU is clocked at 2.3GHz.

They both host 3GB of RAM, but Mi4’s internal storage is fixed and comes in two variants: 16 and 32GB. The Z2 has 16GB of built in storage, but it’s expandable up to 128GB.

As for the OS, both of them run on the same Android platform, but the Mi4 comes loaded with a newer version – 4.4.3 (KitKat) and has MIUI 6 UI on top of it, while the Xperia Z2 is running on the 4.4.2 (KitKat) version.

Cameras and Batteries

The Xiaomi Mi4 has a good rear camera of 13MP with lots of interesting features such as dual-LED flash, autofocus, 1/3” sensor size and 1.12µm pixel size, touch focus, geo tagging, HDR and face and smile detection, plus HDR video recording at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps. For video conferences, you can use the 8MP camera on the front, which records at 1080p@30fps.

The Xperia Z2’s primary camera is excellent, offering a resolution of 20.7MP and features such as autofocus, LED flash, 1/2.3” sensor size, HDR, image stabilization, touch focus, panorama, face detection and HDR video recording at         2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps. The front camera is weaker than Mi4’s secondary camera, offering a resolution of 2.2MP.

Neither one of these phones’ batteries is user replaceable, but they have a big capacity. The Mi4’s battery lasts 280 hours on stand by mode, because it has a capacity of 3080mAh. The Xperia Z2’s 3200mAh battery allows you to talk 19hours on 3G and it lasts 690 hours in stand by mode.

  •  Both of these phones support: NFC, Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi hotspot, they have a microUSB port and house micro-SIMs.
  •  Currently, the Mi4 supports WCDMA, but a LTE variant will be released later in 2014
  •  Only the Mi4 has an Infrared port
  •  The Xperia Z2 is available in white, black and purple hues colors, while the Mi4 is available only in two variants of shades: white and black.

Prices  

The Xperia Z2 can be bought from amazon.com at the price of 698 dollars. It is rumored that the Mi4 will costs 460 dollars.
