Design and Display
Comparing the two smartphones side by side, it becomes apparent that you have ventured into the premium smartphone arena. Both the devices come with little plastic and more of glass and metal on display. In fact, the same held true for their predecessors. The M8 comes with more metal body, burnished finish and a tad more rounded corners. The M8 is taller due to newly incorporated 5 inches display. However, the M8 is similar in design to that of the HTC One smartphone.
In comparison, the Xperia Z2 has less resemblance to its predecessor, the Xperia Z1 than HTC One M8 has with its predecessor, the HTC One smartphone. The metal and glass casing provides the smartphone with sturdiness and sealed ports provide security against dust and water. The smartphone can be used under water for up to 30 minutes without causing any damage to it.
The Z2 incorporates a 5.2-inch display. Regardless, the Z2 is less thick at 8.2mm than the 9.4mm thickness of M8 smartphone. The angular design of the Z2 makes it difficult to hold and handle the smartphone.
Both the M8 and Z2 are great looking smartphones. However, the M8 comes with a more attractive appearance of the two smartphones.
Both the M8 and Z2 come equipped with Full HD resolution, which has become a standard screen resolution for smartphones. Both smartphones offer 1920×1080 pixels of resolution. Now, that the M8 comes with 5-inch screen in comparison to the 5.2 inches of Z2 smartphone, it offers higher pixel density at 441-ppi to the 424-ppi of the Z2. However, the sharpness has to be derived by monitoring both the smartphones very closely.
In real time usage, the M8 offers a sharper display, vibrant colors and superior wide viewing angles. On the other hand, the Z2 comes with a very special screen in every respect. The screen offers bright colors, crisp text and outstanding contrast. The Z2 comes with enhanced viewing angles in comparison to its predecessor, the Z1. Both M8 and Z2 come at par in terms of screen features. Finally, both M8 and Z2 come with next to flawless screens with hardly any difference between the two smartphones.
There is not much difference between HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 smartphones in terms of design, display and screen. However, personal preference plays a major role when one has to determine which smartphone they want to live with. The screen offers similar performance of both the smartphones. However, in terms of design, the HTC One M8 has an upper edge over the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone.
