Sony Xperia Z2 vs. HTC One M8 – Design Comparison

Sony has been struggling in the smartphone arena against the big guns such as Apple, Samsung, LG and HTC.

The company has been providing the market with state of the art handsets. However, the smartphones of the company are short of that extra verve, to capture the market. It does not mean that the smartphones released by Sony do not deserve a second look. The smartphones are good in most respects. At times, good is just not good enough.

Eventually, with the release of Xperia Z2, Sony found its way into the high-end smartphone arena. Getting straight to the point, this smartphone is awesome, in every respect. However, the smartphone comes in competition with other flagship smartphones of various companies. The HTC One M8 smartphone is a definite competitor to the Xperia Z2 smartphone. The HTC One M8 has amazing looks, runs efficiently and offers stunning sound quality with its striking speakers, placed in the front. Let us compare the two smartphones in terms of their design.

Design Comparison

Both these smartphones have awesome designs. Choosing the one based on design, would not be an easy task. The Xperia Z2 is a beautiful smartphone that comes in a glass and metal casing. The solid rectangular flat design may not be appealing for some. However, the smartphone does have a solid body. One drawback is the large size of the smartphone that may cause a problem to hold the device comfortably.

The HTC One M8 smartphone comes in a metal casing. In terms of design, we believe the common masses would prefer the One M8 to the Xperia Z2. The HTC One M8 variant has almost similar height, width and weight as that of its counterpart. However, the One M8 fits comfortably in the palm due to the smartphone’s curvy corners and the rear.

The buttons on Sony Xperia Z2 are easily accessible and are traditionally placed on the right side of the device. The camera key enables the user to launch the camera from every screen. The power key is placed on the top. However, if the user finds it difficult to reach, a double tap on the screen would activate the smartphone. The Xperia Z2 has flaps for covering its ports. The smartphone comes equipped with IP58 protection against water and dust resistant damages. Regardless, do not try to dip the smartphone into water as it can withstand only a splash of water.

The SIM card and the microSD card slots are placed on the sides of the device and are covered with flaps for protection. The cards can be taken out with ease as and when required. In comparison, taking the SIM or microSD card out of the slots in the HTC One M8 would require an effort. You would require a pin or similar sharp device to take the cards out from their trays.

Both these devices come equipped with speakers on the front surface, offering high quality sound to the users. This feature is not available on other company’s flagship devices.
